Play guitar ? your more creative, intuitive and spiritual ... says science !!

''Researchers scanned the brains of 12 pairs of guitarists, all of whom were asked to play the same piece of music. The researchers discovered that the guitarists' neural networks could synchronize not only while playing the piece — but even slightly before playing.

When a guitarist shreds, he or she temporarily deactivates the brain region that routinely shuts down when achieving big-picture goals, signalling a shift from conscious to unconscious thought.

When non-experienced-musicians attempt to play a solo, the conscious portion of their brain stays on, which implies that "real" guitarists are able to switch to this more creative and less-practical mode of thinking more easily. ''

When mere mortals (non-musicians) attempt a solo, the conscious portion of their brain stays on, which indicates that real guitarists are able to switch to this more creative and less practical mode of thinking more easily.

I don't really see how this is anything new. Its just muscle memory; doing it over again until it becomes second nature.

SRV - If I start trying to pay attention to where I am on the neck, and this is the proper way to do this or that, ya know, then I end up thinking that thing through, and instead of playing from my heart I’m playing from my mind, and that’s where I find I get in trouble. If I just go with what’s in my heart and let it come out, then I’m OK."

Science article proves something someone said many years ago :/

Isn't this the same with almost everything ever? I remember recognising this when I was 9 years old, when I could only complete a particularly tricky part of "Croc: Legend of the Gobbos" on PS1 when I was distracted/not thinking directly about it.
