...does anyone find this disturbing for some reason? It just looks wrong to me, if I see it on tv it almost makes me wince. I've seen people use them to cut pizza, whats wrong with a pizza cutter?

Are they using food scissors (if that exists) or just a ordinary pair of scissors?

Nothing wrong with a pizza cutter but a pair of scissors will be more common in a kitchen than a pizza cutter I'd imagine. Ordinary kitchen scissors for the most part, at least I've never known anyone who has used any other type of scissors.

For what little it matters I tend to use a knife to cut pizza rather than scissors but that's just personal preference.

What's wrong with scissors ? it's not like people use unclean scissors which contaminate the food, mine just sit with the rest of the cutlery in a draw and get washed straight after using them.

I own a pizza cutter though so just use the scissors for cutting up bacon when a slice is to long to fit in my sandwich without overhang

Maybe it's just we've not had great pizza cutters, but I've never had any luck with those wheels for cutting pizza. Either they don't cut, and just end up pulling all the toppings off the pizza, or they leave great gouges/scrapes in the pizza tray.

Personally I think pizza scissors are a great invention, especially if you're serving up pizza to many people.

If you're eating on your own the whole pizza should be rolled up and eaten baguette fashion however, of course.

No point in a pizza wheel.

Large cooks knife -> press down and rock through pizza crust like a mezzaluna used by a proper pizza place.

You can then use that same cooks knife for a lot more than a pizza wheel.

Pizza cutters are crap, I just use a knife. Unless you're using a blunt piece of crap masquerading as a knife then a knife does it best. Don't get this "use scissors" stuff, that's more work.

I often use poultry shears for more than butchery, used a bog standard set of scissors before them.
Mainly bought them for snipping joints on game birds but scissors are useful in a kitchen.

For example if I really can't be arsed to get a board out to dice some meat I'll just snip it with scissors. Sometimes you just don't want the washing up and a load of chopping boards and that out.

Herbs are another one - stops any risk of bruising the herbs.

Spring onions and stuff like that too, useful.

How is that faster, you need to cut it 6-8 times instead of 4.

If you'd take 4 goes to cut your pizza with a pizza cutter then why would it take more goes with scissors? The principle of cutting a straight line across the diameter is the same so you'd still be going from one outer edge to the other - the only difference is the implement used.

cutting bacon, slice meats, some herbs. Also useful for some vegetables, like topping green beans in to a bin.
also use poultry shears

Reminds me of when I met the other half, was watching her making bacon sarnies on a Sunday morning, she always cuts the rind off, I stood watching as she took each rasher and carefully used a knife to trim the fat.

Two rashers in I decided I'd had enough "allow me" grabbed kitchen scissors and cut the rind off the remaining 10 rashers in one pop.

For a few short hours one Sunday morning I attained god like status ( long since revoked )
