Scottish Students need to stop whining!

Yeah. But it's Scotland. C'mon?

Seriously though, let them protest - I'm sure it's being done with future students interests at heart.

They're not exactly whining, they're standing up for something that doesn't necessarily affect them, they're thinking about other peoples futures. Which says a lot.

Are they protesting this point in particular, do you know, or is this the assumed agenda couched in a semblance of solidarity for English fee-payers? If the former, are they willing to pay university fees themselves to maintain a high calibre of staffing?

Some will be and are also wanting fees in England scrapped for an effective funding solution.

I doubt they'll be wanting to pay any fees so it'll be likely the governments will make some sort of deal for the money to come out of the Scottish budget.

Scottish student here, completely agree with OP. I'm happy with my free education and I'm keeping my mouth shut lest it disappear!

I know a few of the people from my uni protesting and they're generally just the protesting kind of people... They don't really seem to care what it is that they protest about as long as they protest and make sure to let everyone know just how unhappy they are

At the end of the day, if you want a degree, pay for it.

At least 60% of the students I know had partying as the major reason for going to Uni. They went for the experience of uni life and not about the qualifications.

I can understand people protesting for a good cause, but I don't think is one.

If it were the other way round do you think English students would be protesting?

I doubt it.

Erm... Yes... There would obviously be some heading up to Edinburgh to protest fee increases. Not everyone is as anti union as most of the people in this thread seem to be.

Im not anti-union. This is not a issue the country can unite on. Its two separate systems.

edit: and yes i will keep repeating myself.

BTW, it's "you're".

Just 'cause your mates care about something you don't doesn't mean you should shoot them down. If they annoy you that much, delete them.

Spot on!

I don’t see what's wrong with Scottish students backing English students over the rise in uni fee, if Scottish students don’t think its fair and voice thier opinion, it just give the English student more support.

Soon it'll be cheaper for English students to go to a Scottish uni than study in an English one, good thing too as we might get more staying north of the border.

aside from the confusing notion that people shouldn't support a protest if it doesn't directly affect them, there seems to be the same rumbling undercurrent (and some open comments) that students just protest for ****s and giggles. Seriously, why would you think that was the case? It takes a real effort to protest, especially to travel the length of the country to do it. Or to occupy a building. Yes some may not fully understand the situation, no-one is claiming they're geniuses or protesting about the right things, but to suggest they're protesting for the sake of it is daft.
