Scrappage scheme cars: Still on the runway!

"someone" I know went here, before top gear said about it.

I... ( I mean someone :p ) have loads of pictures somewhere, will upload them if you want to see them?

A lot of decent motors just sitting there rotting away!

There was a Range Rover beach buggy there aswell, which still started.

Edit: All the cars had keys in them, and some nice mint cars there!

Please do upload :).

Such a waste of perfectly good serviceable cars which would have served people well for years to come.

Not everyone wants the latest new reg car with big alloys on finance. I, like a lot of people, prefer to actually own an older car with zero depreciation. ;)

I very much doubt they are scrappage scheme cars. As part of the paperwork to claim the money from the government the car dealerships had to send off a certificate of destruction for each car. These are issued by the scrap / breakers yard and guidelines state that the vehicles should be destroyed within 7 days of the certificate being issued.

It was pretty sad seeing some of the cars that came in. I remember speaking to the manager of a yard in Bristol telling me about an old Jag that they had to crush.

PK!

What's the eventual fate of these cars? They can't possibly sit there for years to come rotting away, there must be a plan to do something with them surely.

Such a waste. It actually makes me angry to look at those pics. What a ****ing retarded scheme that was

+1

seriously.. so many parts.. cars.. i mean why the hell would you do this? there's money there and this country needs it..

its quite obvious that this is wrong so why no one cares?

Went around there myself around November time, was stocked by the amount of cars stored on site. Lines and lines of new and old cars.

Runway was empty, could have had fun on that :d

Also stocked me more I saw no one anywhere.

With them being scrapped cars that are not moving there probably wouldn't be anyone on the site where the these cars are. The things is that you can just walk past a couple of bollards and are then on the Paragon site (See Merc picture and also have Ford, VW, Seat, Peugot and Chrysler).

Can you just walk in?! Is there no security etc? Surely there must be something as all the cars have their keys in!

There is security on the main site with the car storage but only at the entrance, once you get down to the runway there really isn't anyone bar the odd person driving a car down there and with a site of this size that isn't often!

If its anything like the cars lined up at the car auctions, the ones at the ends of the lines dont have keys in. Unless your somehow going to crane your selected car from the middle of the pack, its going to be very difficult to steal one.

Don't know about the scrapped cars but the other cars lined up have their keys in, bar some of the more upmarket Mercs. Peugots are a waste of time though, nigh on all of them are broken and have a flat battery after they are left to stand for more than 10seconds. Every other manufacturer was normaly fine :D

poor minis :(

Such a waste. Surprised most of the cars in the photos look intact and at least have some parts worth selling in them. :(

As said above, should do a OCUK destruction derby meet. :D

EDIT: Is there a railway track that goes by there?
