I used to own a 1st gen iPod Touch - had it for just under a year without issue, but had to return it when I moved jobs (it was supplied by work as a PDA). I replaced it last September with my own iPod touch 2nd gen. This has been fine on the whole, but one thing I've noticed, and that has really started to annoy me is that the screen seems to scratch very easily. I would have thought that a glass screen would be nearby impossible to scratch, but seemingly I am wrong! Within two days of owning my new 2nd gen, the screen had two hairline scratches on it right in the centre of the screen. I put this down to me being careless, bit the bullet, and forgot about it.
Recently however, even more hairline scratches have been appearing. I've now got a total of 5 on the screen - the original two dead centre, with 2 at the bottom and one at the top. Since I keep the iPod in its leather case constantly, and am especially careful when removing it from my pocket (trying not to repeat the early experiences!) I find it hard to believe that these new scratches have appeared, especially since I managed to keep my 1st gen scratchless for a whole year!
Is it possible that this is indeed a batch defect of some kind and that my iPod is more susceptible to scratching, in which case would I have a case if I took it back to a Apple Store? Or is it just that I'm very unlucky? I'm do think I treat the iPod extremely well in all honesty. That back of the iPod (which I would expect to scratch first) has hardly any scuffs whatsoever, and so I find these scratches on the screen not only annoying, but slightly disappointing! Thoughts?
