Screen cracked - iPhone 4 best thing to do

I've now got my phone fixed, just did it at a repairs stand in a shopping centre - shame I didn't check back on the thread. They charged £55 which is more reasonable than some places asking for £100+

Your warranty is now voided. Should have tried the apple store first mate

I am not sure if to go through my insurance or try the apple store.

Its been faulty for ages, appalling battery life and the mute switch at the side broke after only weeks of buying it brand new so its always vibrating in my pocket.. but then i went and dropped it by accident and it cracked the front screen.. the guy on the door at the apple store tried to convince me that this voids your warranty? when i explained to him that its been faulty for ages he said you might be lucky and get it swapped.. doesn't seem like much of a policy that lol

Book an appointment at a different apple store take it in there say it fell out your pocket as you got out of the car. If that doesn't work do the insurance route

It depends what materials are used. Cheap Chinese imports will look a lot different to the medium quality parts apple use

And the chinese parts are all over eBay, literally everywhere. Almost impossible to find genuine apple iphone parts.

If it's a 4S and is therefore an expensive device with a resale value then I'd do legit and use Apple store.

You can only pick up used genuine parts, apple wont supply their screens.

Trouble is, most mobile phone insurance policies I've found have exclusive excess's for iPhones which can £100, if not more. So make you read your policy before making a claim for just a screen smash. Your looking out for something like:

An excess of £50 (£100 for any iPhone device) is payable on acceptance of any one claim.

If the screen is cracked and its only one clear crack apple will most likely replaced this under warranty. They allow for a single crack. If its smashed to bits it will be a chargeable repair. Using fake parts will void the warranty. One way of spotting fake front and backs is how well the camera lines up in the hole. That's a big give away to a replaced front or back.

Also if the liquid indicators are tripped on the headphone socket or the system connector don't settle for them to say its liquid damaged. I know we check all iPhone's with the indicators tripped and if the board is clean it will be done under warranty.
