Hi guys.

My sandisk 64gb class 10 sd card has died. It has corrupted i think due to a rogue file and caused it to overheat and damage. I can no longer write to the card and it doesnt allow me to format.

I have bought a replacement sd card and want to format it as ext4 as i have heard its better file system.

i have used philz recovery to format the sdcard but when booting the rom it doesnt mount .

do i need to do something special to get the sdcard to mount etc ?

thanks

Needs to be FAT I'm afraid.

Back in the days of limited /data partitions, setting part of the SD card to EXT was a thing, with either native support from ROMs of Apps2SD, but not now.

no im sure you can. ive read forum posts.

the default is exfat however you can format the card to ext4. im just not too sure on how to mount it.

i was hoping someone had a noob guide of doing it.

Android is linux and the native file system for internal storage is ext4 already.

You need to format it to Fat 32, I do mine in Linux using Gparted. Have a 64GB card in my Tegra Note 7 working perfectly :)

It's not that simple otherwise every feature of the linux kernel would be in Android and we would have more power at our disposal. Android always supports FAT32 and optionally, some devices support exFAT (manufacturer specific). Extra support is provided by the ROM community for other file systems but you should consider the application - the FS needs to reflect the needs of a mobile device with non-dependant removable storage.

ext4 has it's place but it's not here - journalling isn't appropriate for flash. exFAT is designed for flash and will do all the things you need (>4GB being the biggest difference), if your device supports this then use it, otherwise FAT32 is universally supported.

I have a 32GB which I formatted in the Tegra, but I cant always copy movies over. I have like 3-4 mkv/mp4 files but when every I try and play them after copying I get a error saying cannot play file. They work fine on the Tablet itself but on the SDcard they are always messed up, have you had any probs?

I did also format the card on my Mac but same problem:confused:

pumaz - what card are you using? I bought another 64gb and keeps failing when transferring movies to it, same probaly with a 32GB i have.
