does anyone know when this phone is due to be released? I'm holding off on upgrading until this becomes available.

thanks

In theory, Oct/Nov this year. But going by SE's reputation with the K810i and similar, I reckon we could be waiting till early 2008 for the K850i.

hmm thats quite a while then. any other phones worth considering? i have a k800 atm, so don't really see the point in the K810

Yeh, from the K800i/K810i there's not a lot that offers a reasonable upgrade at the moment, apart from the N95, which as has been said, has disappointed a lot of people.

The W960i and K850i will be the next generation of phones; providing major upgrades over the current offerings.

Until then, or until another company announces something new, it's just a waiting game :)

IMO The K850i is the same as the K800i, but with the 5mp camera, which to be honest isnt going to be an huge boom in mobile phone camera technology purely down to the fact that the lens can only offer you so much quality from such a small lense.

This is what peeves me off about SE phones, if they introduced newer technologies and bought some new features to the phone rather than a slightly better camera each time, then i would opt to upgrade to one.

In the past 4 years I have had SE phones, K700i, K750i, K800i, when my upgrade came up from the K800i, i could have stuck with SE, but i didnt..why? because I was bored of the same old SE features, they offered nothing new and exiting.

Why did i go for the N95? Because it offered a wide range of new features which were new to the mobile world, so what if the phone has a bad rep, I have had one replacement handset and this was because the first one kept re-setting itself, my second N95 handset has been faultless, it has been unlocked, firmware updated, i have used the GPS feature granted that it will be a lot better when they get a patch working for Tomtom, i regulaly use the Wifi feature, MSN Live Messenger which works well.

To be honest if i went back to SE phones now i would be bored stiff.

This is exactly how i'm feeling. They are good phones but there's nothing new really. Just slighty better each time. I''m tempted by the N95 but the battery life really puts me off

Fair enough both of you :)

Just to add, the K850i has a lot of new features as well as the 5MP camera. These include:

- A completely revamped media player
- Xenon flash as well as LED lights for video mode
- QVGA video recording at 30fps (a feature only seen on the W900i previously)
- 3 soft buttons (SE has had two for a looong time now)

But yes, I do see and take your point :)

What are soft button s

The little buttons under the screen that relate to the text on the screen. Adding a soft button doesn't sound like a lot, but it will change the way you use the phone quite a bit. Admittedly it's not a huge change, I just mentioned it because I happened to think of it :D

It also has the addition of the Call/End Call buttons, which I don't think makes that much of a difference.

it will also support h.s.d.p.a (3.5g like the n95)

I called O2 about this phone yest, I was considering gettign a N95, but after all the bad reports, poor battery life and 02 wanted a 18month contract I decided against it.

The guy advised me to wait for the K850i, said if I liked my current phone (k800i) I will love this one. Must admit the K800i is the best phone I have ever owned, and iv tried quite a few.

Still cant decided wether to get the K850i when it appears or wait for the Iphone, though he said that isnt likely to appear till jan/feb now :(

Looks like it *could* be a good phone, but that video is laughable. The phone looks totally unfinished for demo, the "heat sensitive" buttons will be a nightmare when winter comes, like all this touch button things are, tactile feedback is the only way really. They may have three soft buttons now, but one of them is almost dedicated to back, so they still mainly use two. The camera take a AGE to load up by the looks of things, and the fact the guy had to pick another phone up to carry the demo on put me right off :p
