Sea water = brown or very dark blue

anyone got any tutorials or tips for getting the ocean blue again

without seeing the picture im not sure, but i can give you a suggestion.

Select the sea, but using the lasso tool or a quick layer mask.
change brightness slightly higher
change colour balance to blue
adjust accordingly

Or alternatively change the colour in hue/saturation to a close colour to blue, brighten, then adjust colour balance to blue.

Post picture and il have a go.

If your using Photoshop CS, go to Image > Adjustments > Replace Colour.

Then select a bit of the brown sea and then selecta replacement colour from the pallette.

very unlikely with that picture im afraid mate. It would be easier to just stick the 2 people on a new background, still they look to blown out and bright.

Mate thats not bad, when i did the same thing the darker parts of the water didnt look right.

looks a lot better already, damn its a **** i cant find the original, mind u that was taken at some crap beach i took the nephews too, i do prefer greece
