A few months ago I got a new 3tb HDD to store photos and videos for editing as well as movies and tv shows for streaming to the PS3 and TV.
I chose Seagate 3tb ST3000DM001 because of the good reviews and reasonable price at a time when prices are/were still inflated due to flooding. I chose this despite the sometimes bad reputation of seagate (7200.11-gate).
Anyway, here's the benchmarks:
Read
Write
Random Read
ATTO Read & Write
SATA III vs SATA II
Out of curiosity I plugged the drive into the SATA II port with a SATA II cable. The Read benchmark has no noticeable performance drop. So, maybe the good performance is down to the 64mb buffer and 1tb platters.
Read - SATA II
Read - SATA III
