I am a bit in the dark with media players-would this be able to access content on my pc or a nas drive via a cat 5 cable without any adaptors etc to enable me to play stuff on the main tv without transferring to usb sticks etc?

What's the joke? MKV-playing ability is a sorely needed feature in a media player.

Don't worry it was a sarcastic win because of the " ;) "

Indeed MKV is the future and is very much needed. Pre-orders coming in hot! I have a feeling these will be here Monday/Tuesday next week so take advantage!

Price makes it worth a try as an introduction to media players, nice job! This Media Player seems to have it all but more info on specs would've helped others. I had to hunt around to find out if it was suitable for me, not all answers found.

- Is this a new product or revision stocked by ocuk? I've seen a a review from September 2010 on this (seen on ExpertReviews but no link due to site linking to another eretailer).
- Shame the internal capacity is stated as only 500GB (1-2TB would be nice) (official specs here), not sure if the external capacity is limited either on the speedy USB 2.0 port to supplement this. If not would Ethernet bypass this?
- Does this feature continuous playback, so once you click on an MP3 track it keeps playing as I've read elsewhere that it stops after each track clicked?

rain forest resellers have had these for months (at a significantly higher price than this I will say, nearer £85), it's been on the front page for me for ages in the side ads along with other hd media players as a general category. Reviews starting from about the same time as you mention.

As far as I can tell it's the same thing, this kind of device is likely to have firmware that any updates/fixes will be applied through (the exception to this being the goflex desk drives that used to come with usb2 adapters and now come with usb3 as standard, though the adapter is available separately too, so that's like an upgraded release of hardware).

The 500GB is not standard but an optional extra (as is the wifi adapter which plugs into one of the 2 usb ports). Note on your link there are 2 setups available, either media player only, or media player + 500GB drive. That drive, I would assume, is going to be one of the goflex family that sits in the dock around the back of the device (it's a sata connector that the goflex drives all use to plug into their various different adapter types).

The drive firmware has been updated so it can read upto 3TB disks, but I don't know if that's on the goflex adapter or via the usb port; I suspect (based on what I know from owning the goflex 3tb desk and goflex 3tb home nas devices) it will be both.

Thanks for the info topdog. If this can support up to 3TB external (you put 3GB lol) then I'd need to see what drives it actually supports but couldn't find the documents with the makes/models to guarantee compatibility.

Yip, just realised that this has optional wifi adapter that means your left with only 1 USB for storage - would prefer a big HDD inside due to lack of space on shelves.

The inside one isn't really inside but standing vertically on the back so you'd still need normal height of a goflex drive standing on its end. It'd make the device sort of L-shaped when looked on from the side. Should be ok though so long as you don't have really short amount of height / vertical space on the shelves it would go on, and you were only concerned about horizontal space of lining gadgets up beside eachother.

For me personally, my PC is always hooked up by HDMI to the TV anyway so I was going to give this a miss, but I do keep an eye out on this family of products, and I'm wondering about the goflex satellite device (essentially a wireless hd running off its own battery, so you could have it in a bag or large pocket and have it feed a tablet with high speed high def content). They're only just announced so not out yet, but I like this company's thinking when it comes to the device range.
