I started another thread and took the advice to buy the above psu.

Been installing fresh windows onto SSD today, restarting a few times etc.

Went to enter bios, hit delete but the screen stayed black then the computer turned off.

Mobo LED indicates power but the fans spin half a turn then die.

Reset CMOS and replaced battery on Mobo. No luck.

Unplugged and plugged in all the power cables. No luck.

Got the old Corsair 400w PSU out the loft and plugged in it. Boots fine.

What are the chances of the psu being bad? I’ll double check all the connections before I remove it from the case & return it but want to ask first. Would only have had 4-5 hours use.

Edit: removed from case, double checked everything, still faulty. No smell of blown caps or visual signs.

Could be "infant mortality."
Those are caused by some hiding small defects not caught by factory tests or mishandling in transport (especially for HDDs) etc.

Symptoms are like some protection getting triggered with PSU shutting down itself.
Trying to jump start PSU would confirm that.
It's done by connecting PS-ON to ground/common:

(until Cors'ass introduced all black crap fashion cabling it was green wire)

Swapped out for a replacement under warranty. System ran fine on my 400w Corsair for a week with the IDE drives disconnected to reduce the drain just incase. All rebuilt now and 90 mins use, no problems..
