Well it looks that way, as I appear to have bought a shed from them 2 1/2 years ago now; it was craftily disguised as a Leon Cupra at the time though.

I have calculated my car that cost £9,999 s/h has cost me over £1,300 in repairs now. I have just had to fork out nearly £700 to have all 4 doors and the front bulkhead re-sealed against water leakage and have it leak tested/ all the seats removed so it can be properly dried out etc. It was leaking in all 5 places. Utterly disgraceful for a car just 14 months out of warranty. This is the 4th time it has been in for out- of- warranty repair work now (All non-mechanical mind) I knew I should have p/x'ed it for a 330 in the summer when it started leaking.

I posted about the ST220 and possibly looking at one as a replacement for this, but just wondering if anyone thinks I should actually replace it? I have taken a massive hit now in terms of getting it all repaired and mechanically it is faultless, and as much as I hate it, I cannot deny that it is a lovely car to drive. What I don't want to do is spend all this money on repairs, lose another wad buying a new car, and then have someone else driving my car for years in perfect working order. At the same time another part of me wonders what's going to go wrong next. The other thing against me selling is that I would have to replace all 4 tyres, as the tyres on the original wheels are completley bald. (I have aftermarket alloys on now).

What would you do? Stick with it now you've forked out a load for repairs, or sell? I really had to get the water leak fixed as you couldn't even rinse the thing down without a big puddle appearing in the back footwell and I'm pretty sure I would have got pulled up on it if I had tried to P/X it.

Wow, sounds like you bought a lemon, not heard of similar leaks before, and certainly not come across them myself.

In terms of getting rid and cutting your losses, what year/plate is it and what milage? I'm going to get rid of my LCR soon I feel, whilst they still hold a decent value.

May be worth getting rid before it decends into the realms of ultra depreciation.

The door seals are a known issue with the Leons. You may have noticed that when opening the door after a rain shower that a lot of water would spill out as it was trapped in the seals. When the seals become worn, the water works its way into the car.

It's a design fault. I'm keeping a close eye on mine at the minute just in case.

It's a pre-facelift silver cupra (51 plate), 38,000 miles FSSH and electric/ leather option so apart from sat nav, it was fully loaded when it was brand new. Paid £9,999 in August 2004 (2 1/2 years old) with 17,000 miles on it from a car supermarket, which was quite a bit less than others with that spec were going for. I would hope to get something like £7,000 (bit less probably) if I sold it right now, as the paintowork/ interior are in great condition and it is low mileage.

Yes it is a design fault and I've had a few 'discussions' with Seat to try and get some goodwill on the repair from them (esp considering how much the whole car has cost me and some of the repairs were weeks outside warranty) but they're not having any of it.

Is this the same fault that Skoda Fabias suffer from? Fortunately after 2 trips to the dealers mine has stopped leaking.

Probably. VAG sucks.

Depends how far you want to take it, you could get an engineers report (stating its a design fault) and then take them to court for the repairs.
How would I go about doing that? Would I just get the guy from Seat who worked on it to give me a report? Could it be settled via Small Claims Court?

Not entirely sure on the process, but check with CAB. If you can get an engineers report to prove its an design fault that was there from when it was manufactured im sure you could claim the repairs or partial repairs back from them through SCC.

My 206 feels like a friday afternoon car too. I'm cutting my losses this year but I hope the glue holds together while I find my ideal replacement.

Its always a case of "After this is fixed that'll be the end of it".

It's the same with my 206 which has cost me £2kish in 2006 in repairs alone. My mum had a Mk3 Golf that was just a dog. It was always a case of thinking the next repair will be the last, but it never was.

If you don't trust the vehicle and can't afford the cost of owning it, even though you enjoy the vehicle, just cut your losses and move on.

My car makes my skin crawl, it's awfully made and I daren't spend any more money on it as it's wasted investment.

I doubt you'll get anywhere near £7K for it with it being pre-facelift. I've seen facelift versions on an 03 plate with similar miles on autotrader for £7,400 as I'm in the market for one. The leak issue is a common fault though.

If its mechanically sound I'd keep it.

I'd not let the "BMW/Mondeo" brigade pipe up and convince me otherwise ;)

just a tip bit of subject really but good for anyone who wants to renew there seals or keep them in top condtion get some Einszett Rubber Protection Gummi Pflege as its known

this stuff really works when im doing some pc work (paint correction) for friends customers i always offer them this as really does rejuvenate the rubber

Hmm I'm going by what I was offered as a PX last summer. Probably more like 6 now.
