As I now have my bike, i'm possibly looking to get a new car which will offer better mpg and less hassle that my existing one (mk4 Golf 1.6).

My uncle has a 51 plate Ibiza Sport 1.9 TDI on his forecourt at the moment which I intend to take a look at, it's silver with all the trimmings and I could get it for a shade under £4,000.

What's the general consensus of this car? Will it be a downgrade in terms of quality and driving experience? Or is it a wise decision as my bike is now my thing of speed and a 110bhp TDI lump will serve me well with 55mpg (compared with my current 30) and a teeny bit more power to go with it?

Give me opinions - even you Fox :D

is it definately the 110bhp model? if so its definately a more sensible rather than fun car.

what year is it and how many miles?

if its a 130bhp model then youre laughing, pretty quick and barely drink at all

I'm not sure which it is, I just know it's a 1.9 TDI Sport - So it could be either.

It's a 51 plate with 60k miles on the clock.

It'll probably be the older shape 110bhp, but its still a good car.

I used to have one and it was a good all rounder. Price seems good.

Its not a 130bhp, but its not far away and can always be chipperoo'd to higher power if need be.

Its no hot hatch, but its a little quicker than Saxo VTR's which used to be a laugh.

Decent equipment inside, with Climate as standard and Traction. Cheap to insure and very reliable... a good car imo.

Yeah, as I said - I have a fireblade for my speed demons, so this will be something to drive around in when I don't want to go on the bike. As long as it is well equipped, comfortable and a nice drive, whilst offering me good fuel economy, i'm happy :)

What do they sound like? Are they tractorish or is it a good deisel lump?

if its a 130, ive driven one.

PD engine, so about as close to a tractor as you could imagine (not refined at all imo)

If you wanted some extra giggles, chipping is worth it. Believe that if you drive sensibly then the MPG is actually higher.

Overall, its not a bad little package

Well..

In all honesty, i thought the 1.9 tdi 110bhp sounded pretty good... it reminded me of a 2.0 petrol...

Of all the TD cars i have owned, this sounded the best.

the vag 1.9tdi's vary a lot ;)

our v reg a4 tdi 115 sounds sweet as a nut,

the 51 octy sounds so so

and the 04 octy sounds like a bloody tractor with a whistle

No pics of my actual car..
