Hey,

I went out in a mates Ibiza Gti for a drive and it looked a felt very good. Do you guys know anything about these cars? As im planning to pick up cheapy one <£1000.

I know for the differece in price and the difference in insurance, i'd much rather have the 2.0 16v 150BHP version.

Performance wise, what could you outrun from the lights? :p

I look on Parkers, and they say i could get a decent Cupra Gti for £1000.

I've found two in the country on autotrader sub 1k one has 155k on the clock the other don't state how many, all the others start at 1.7k you are at the very bottom of price range and what you get will reflect this.

You haven't found two, that first one is a 1.8 not a 2.0 ;)

EDIT: although i'd rather have the 1.8 16v than the 2.0 8v

Parkers is useless, IMHO. It used to be quite accurate but these days it's either too optimistic or too pessemistic. After all, it only 'reports' on values..

My mistake, i may have found one but the guy don't state the engine size, can the 1.8 actually be any slower than the 2.0, i know thats going to be hard......

See my edit, the 1.8 is quicker than the 2.0 8v.

The 2.0 16v is the one to have though.

The 2.0L 8v lump is a nice torquey engine that pulls well in any gear, but dosen't really have any business being in any car with a GTi badge on it tbh. The 16v is the one to go for if you can get insurance sorted.

doesnt have to be a nail, just look n see how its been looked after in the past. my golf is a 95 with 140k+miles n its a minter for a grand and its got the 150bhp engine and it fast enough to {insert odd Jeremy Clarkson remark}
