Budget of about £500. I want a 1080p native LCD that is pretty good at SD as well (edit:/ in fact at the moment it will be used entirely for SD but it seems short sighted not to get a 1080p set at this stage). Which ones should I look out for? I found a Sony KDL-40W2000 for £650. That is slightly outside budget. Are there any others I should be looking out for?
Cheers

no lcd tv's are good at SD, what you really want is a plasma if its purely for SD and you dont want 1080P you want 720P if its sd your watching

but if you can live with poor sd picture get a samsung 1080p 40" brand new for around £650 so a second hand one should be around £500 or less

ye get a plasma

Lol soo blunt but pretty true.

Was in a big department store where I bought my kuro, and wanted to check out the new panasonic PX80 range. The 42 inch version looked very impressive running an SD feed, but the kuro still took the honors. The samsung, philips, and LG plasmas next to these looked absolutely horrific. Blocky, inaccurate colours, then I went over to the samsung LCDs which looked even worse. Sony's in another section looked ok, better than the sammy lcds, but still noticeably worse than the pana and pio plasmas.

And before anyone jumps the gun, I did tweak some of the settings on the tvs, as most had the brightness, contrast, and colours cranked up.

Depends how fussy you are. Most people are perfectly happy with SD on an LCD. Just that the folk on this forum are perhaps a little fussier than most. :p

Too true.

I have a 32" Samsung LCD and i think its brilliant. My parents have a 37" Sharp LCD and thats really impressive and better than mine. All in all both LCD's and plasmas are great if you ask me :)

I have the Samsung LE40M86BD and its decent with Sky+ SD. Some channels are better than others, but i do get some ghosting and motion blur issues, but thats just the way LCD's handle it. The settings need to be tweaked a lot though.

There was a website linked on here that showed how a CRT, LCD and Plasma handle motion blur. Cant remember it though.
