second hard drive not showing up...

I'm trying to rescue some data from a hard disk from another pc. I've hooked it all up to a different computer, and that computer's seeing it in device manager and says it's functioning correctly. However, I can't see the hard drive in windows explorer. Am I doing something wrong?

Is it visible under Disk Management and does it have an unused drive letter assigned?

it's visible under disk management but has no drive letter.

Someone else is saying to me that the disc size is limited on the current pc and I need to download 'big drive enabler'. Does that make sense?

In that case assign it one, right click it under disk management and choose 'change drive letter and paths' and give it an unused one.

When you look at the disk under disk managent what is its status of the volume?

What size is the partition on the disk and what version of windows are you running?

the main partition is 145gb, and there's a smaller partition of 55gb. I'm using windows XP. I've just run a .exe called 'big drive enabler' because apparently i needed to do that, but it hasn't helped. Still not drive letter assigned, still not letting me do it. I notice now that it's also saying that free space on the disk is 100%. Does that mean all the data's lost on it anyway?

What OS was running on the machine this was pulled from? What Filesystem does it show when hooked up to your machine NTFS, FAT32?

it was running on XP and it doesn't show any file system on the new machine.

If it's not showing any filesysten then something is most definitely wrong. Was the disk giving any problems in the old PC?

I faintly remember having something similar. If I remember right, the disk was shagged. Though I'm sure someone might know something that might help more.

my friend who's advising me is suggesting the FAT has been lost.

You might want to pickup a usb to sata/ide adapter (comes with hd power supply) then connect it to Your recovery PC
