As title really, I'm considering getting a double din MP3/DVD player for my car, whether it's a cheaptastic one off ebay or a Kenwood or such, these double din units seem to have no security features at all?

My car gets parked just outside of St Pauls in Bristol Mon-Fri, so I can imagine a 6.5" screen in the car is asking to be nicked.

Is there any security features embedded into these or is it as simple as yank the headunit out and off we go?

Although they'd have a hard time climbing through the window with the dead locks on. :D

Oh, and has anyone got experience of these el cheapo double din head units? I've done a search and there wasn't a conclusive answer to this with regards to the single DIN units...

a few guys on mr2oc have got the el cheapo double din headunits off ebay and have said there are pretty good.

TBH i wouldnt want to leave a double DIN in my car, i would rather have a face off single DIN

Unless you are able to physically remove part of the headunit (e.g. a fascia), then security features are a bit of a waste of space. If they are in the car they will get the headunit out if they want it, be it through sliding it out or destroying half your dash. They are unlikely to care about any code systems etc either as they can usually be found on the internet.

I've got a factory fit double din headunit in my celica. Unfortunately it's bolted to the dashboard and requires a bit of modding to fit a single din headunit so it has put me off replacing it. The only security feature it has (apart from requiring a crowbar to remove) is that you can get a grey plastic cover to hide it, which will look pretty obvious.

I've got a Kenwood DDX 6029 - It's screwed into the cage and into the dash itself so to get it out requires taking the dash apart which probably makes it worse as you can imagine the damage if someone was to try and get one out in a hurry..

A few guys who have double din's in their Civic type-R's have made panels to put over the unit, although this wont protect it it does fool prying eyes.
