Security question - Hosting game/file storage server

I am looking to setup a server using some spare hardware I have left over mainly for personal file storage with raid etc and occasionally for hosting public gaming server e.g. Teamspeak3 and Arma 3 etc.

Would my files be safe on the same server, or would they be open for attack by some hackers that like to mess up gaming servers?

They look pretty good for the price.

My reason behind it was, i'm going to be having a PC as a file server anyway, so thought I may as well use it to host my gaming servers as well.

I will have a look at what specs I would need for hosting something like a 64 player Arma 3 server with certain mods + TS server.

I've got a 200mb connection, so it handles it pretty well.

You can get 1GB Internet from a few suppliers in the UK now, buts it's priced at around 50 quid a month.

The only down side about getting people to try and crash my server with DDOS attacks, is it annoys the ISP. Going to just stick to a file storage at home, and renting a server else where.
