Not sure. Suspect it's nothing Earth-shattering, even taking the nitrous into account. Ultra-high power probably wasn't the aim :)

:p

I somehow thought that was going to be aimed at me.

Truely stunning car, I'm a fastback man myself and plan on buying one to restore over a few years mid next year :)

I think the wheels look pap and it should have Torque thrusts on instead :)

It's the same colour (if not very similar) To my dads 1967 Ford Mercury Cougar Danguerny Special :)

Tell me if you have heard of one of those will you!

Bullitt cool to be be precise! :D

Wrong ;)

Bullitt had a 1968 Fastback

Can't remember the engine size, think it was a 351. Might've been bigger though.

Agreed, I hate it when the bodywork over hangs the tyres/wheels. Perfect ride height is about 1-2cm above the tyres. :)

On the newer mustangs maybe then yes.

On the classic ones I think they should be kept original :)

The OP is a git :p

he's got me looking at 67-68 mustangs for sale now that need restoring :p

Grrr :D

Regarding the 'too low' comments - I can see where you're coming from, and I tend to agree that sometimes folks drop their muscle cars a little too much when going for the Pro Touring look. I think it suits this notchback though - certainly wouldn't suit anything like a 2nd gen Charger (think of the General Lee running that low....it'd have no chance of evading Rosco if it ground out that easily :D)

Sorry mate, couldn't resist! As for Bullitt - his was a '67 GT390 fastback IIRC, so 390ci - think it was a big-block, but it could have been a punched-out small-block. Not all that up on most of the Ford engines....

As for the age-old quesiton of fastback versus notchback - I'm sorry, but I'd only buy a fastback if it was a '67 GT390 in dark green. Otherwise, the only 1st gen 'stangs that are cool are the notchbacks :)

Phate again - look now, buy as soon as you really can afford it....and I mean really can afford it. No sense buying it and starting a project only to run up against the financial buffers before you get to properly drive it. That happens in too many cases.

Hate - that car just plain rules.

Lashout_UK - meh, what do you know...you once claimed that no oil should be in the sump! :D

Lol that's cool dude...I do tend to go on about them a lot lol :p

could have sworn it was a '68 hmmmm....so wiki'ing will need to be done here.

EDIT: "The scene had Bullitt in a dark "Highland Green" 1968 Ford Mustang GT-390 Fastback"

Do not fear, I owe some money to people at the minute so I'm not going to be buying one just yet, but I will.

Dad has already said he would love to restore it with me, but I've got to fund it.

Fair play to him.

But they such beautiful cars.

They might not be the fastest, or really designed to go around corners.

But when you drive one of those, you are definately, the coolest kid on the block

Oh and I think this

is mandatory.

It could have been. The GT390 package definitely came out in '67, the film was released in '68 I think (hence the black Charger being a '68....that alongside it being the coolest looking Charger ever. FACT.) One thing I do remember for some reason - the colour of McQueen's 'stang was Highland Green. Not sure how I know that to be honest....

Thinking about it, I reckon the 'stang must have been a '68. But it has been a while since I saw the film.

They aren't all that bad, once you make a few tweaks. Brakes are a weak point, but there are plenty of options there. Steering suffers from American Car Syndrome, and there's not much that can be done about ACS aside from completely reworking the front end. Poly bushes, decent shocks and beefier sway bars help matters though. And a limited slip diff' is definitely handy on the cornering front.

1st gen 'stang (preferably a '67 or '68), tuned small-block (or even transplant a modern Ford Modular in there and do a Gibbo-esque supercharger conversion!), big brakes, decent shocks and hefty sway bars, set of Autometer gauges inside. Instant win, and cool enough to snap knicker elastic from miles away.

There is a guy about a 10minute drive away from me that has built a Bullitt replica 'stang and his is a '68.

I so badly want to buy it off him :p but he'll never sell it.
