Seems 8800 Benchies in 3Dmark 06 means nowt!

I just replaced my BFG 8800 GTS 320 on .18 drivers with a 8800 GTX for effectively zero cost

8800 GTS 320 3D mark 06: 10197
8800 GTX 3Dmark 06: 10921

I hardly noticed any difference here in 3Dmark06. But in gaming and use it shows to be a far faster card. For instance the GTS would run the Nvidia HumanHead demo in 1920X1200 but quite noticably slow on frames. Yet the GTX in the same mode, same drivers is smooth as silk and seamless yet only 700 3d marks seperate em?

Dont trust Nvidia benchmarks, as they want you to get poor performance with lesser cards, making you think you need a GTX...

I never trust or rely on synthetic benchmarks, only real world gaming results.

The gap would no doubt widen in 3D mark if the resolution was increased.
So long as your games are seeing improvements then that's what matters

Crank up the eye candy and enjoy.

explain? are you saying a 320mb gts is in fact faster than anythign ati can throw at it? because your saying the exact opposite of what the os has found.

Im saying about the human head demo thing, chances are nvidia has nerfed the GTS performance to make the GTX look so much better. Probably added massive textures or something so it doesnt fit in the 320MB ram.

From what ive seen on the Orb, your CPU @ 3.2 and a GTX should get you well over 11000 3D marks....

Yeah i uninstalled the drivers, removed the GTS, installed the GTX and reinstalled the .18 drivers. It seems to me after more testing the GTX spanks GTS arse at high end res' like 1920X1200. I've just installed rivatuner and set the GTX at 600/900 and i'm getting 11.183 in 06.... I may do a reinstall though. I'm running Vista64 , any word on the best drivers for the GTX?
