Sell WoW to me

Get a free 10 day pass, its the only way. Using others opinions to make your own is not the way to go. If you also need talking into it then it might not be for you in the first place.

Play it and see - its not like it will cost anything to try it.

lol @ all the hater arguments - its not hard anymore! Itll ruin your life (or so ive heard)! I played it for 5 minutes and I feel like i experienced it sufficiently to call it rubbish! 11 million people have got it wrong, the games no good!

As has been mentioned, get the trial give it a go. Its a lot of fun and not the retarded grindfest it used to be. Of course those who liked the retarded grindfest are moaning but its a lot easier to level to 80 with fun and you theoretically dont even have to kill a mob. In all honesty great little game, very polished. Im playing DF now, lot more interesting but way less polished and lots of grind. Horses for courses.

No one is really saying that, that's just a straw man really. MMOs are all about grinding in some shape or form, grinding takes up considerable periods of time, the end result is an intangible essentially value-less trinket (your account and its items) that remain the property of Blizzard, etc (so they can just shut down the servers and wipe out your efforts in a single swoop). The whole business model for WoW and others like it is to keep people playing (subscribing). It isn't colloquially called "digital crack" for nothing y'know.

It's really no worse than anything else you could occupy your time with online but if you have a completionist disposition then you could quite easily find it unhealthy to start playing it.

(I remember playing Star Wars Galaxies at its height, going to bed at 3am on work nights, etc. I still play Eve but I don't have to play at all to carry on advancing my character so it suits me at the moment)

Very childish user base I tried the 10 day trail a few years back and was astounded by how players behaved, same as if you watching a group of 8 year olds play in the park

But the same could be said for any leisure activity except some are considerably more expensive. A good comparitor would be TV. You gain absolutely nothing from that either.

Though that does somewhat depend upon what you are watching...granted if you watch X-Factor then you dont gain much from it.

If however you watch various documentaries (or some quiz shows) then you gain knowledge, either historical or present. If you watch things like DIY shows, or cookery shows if you like, you gain practical knowledge in how to do things, be it plumbing, cooking, gardening etc.

Not saying that MMOs arent like TV, just saying that I wouldnt say that you "gain absolutely nothing" from TV (at least not unless all you watch is X-factor and Eastenders).

I tried the WoW trial and it was my first MMO, it was so retarded I cannot understand why anyone plays it...

Go to Middle Earth and collect two carrots! *Returns to wizard* now go collect 3 carrots!! *Me: FFS* *uninstalls WoW*

Remember guys the whole game is the same as level one quests

I look at WoW like a can of Coke. I like Coke, but I have a friend who doesnt like Coke. Though Coke is the most sold soft drink in the world. Even though my friend dislikes Coke. Doesn't mean it's a bad drink.

The key to a fun wow experience is being in a nice friendly guild and not overplaying.

Sure there are times when i play more than i probably should (when new expansions/instances hit) but usually one raid night a week suits me fine.

You should play it because it presses all the psychological buttons of the pursuit of power and stature in the (ingame) community.

You shouldn't play it because it presses all the psychological buttons of the pursuit of power and stature in the (ingame) community.

D/L the free trial then see how you feel after that. It might be a little overwhelming to start with so don’t get bogged down in to much in-depth reading of class builds, tactics and specs. Just create a character and have fun. It is a game after all.

I played WoW from release until about 1.5 years ago, so a few years in total.

Pros:

  • Enjoyed levelling, found it quite relaxing. Though I think they've made it even easier to level up now? It was never that hard to begin with.
  • Auction House - Making money on the AH was a lot of fun, buying low and selling high was like a mini game of it's own.
  • Old raids - I raided in Classic, TBC (top 50 worldwide guild called 'Precedent' on Nordrassil realm), and WOTLK. For me I most fondly recall the raids in Classic and TBC, WOTLK was too easy, no challenge and every man and his dog had epix items.
  • Well populated - You see a good number of people while out and about so it feels like you're in a populated game which is good.
  • Well designed/polished. You can tell the developers put a lot of time into the environments, quest lines, characters, layouts etc. The game is very well polished in true Blizzard style. Sure it had bugs occasionally but overshadowed by how well the game was put together.
  • People - get in a good/friendly guild and it increases the fun you have by a lot. I actually moved guild during TBC from one where we spent a lot of time just chatting on vent outside of raids to one which was more performance driven but a lot less social. I missed the social guild but wanted the progression at the time because my old guild got totally stuck.

Cons:

  • It's Addictive - sure not everyone gets addicted but I'd wager a good percentage of the playerbase are addicted to this game. I myself was definitely addicted at one time.
  • Kids - A lot of kids/idiots in this game for sure. The general level of maturity is about 12 years old, you have to find people that are older/more mature to hold a decent conversation.
  • Spammers - Cities are full of spammers. You get gold sellign whispers and people advertising gold selling in sites.
  • Time consuming - This game will take up a lot of your time if you let it. Especially if you raid you can't easily drop out and go do something else if you need to as people are generally relying on you not being AFK for 10 minutes at a time.
  • Too easy - as mentioned earlier it became so easy to get epic items they were no longer epic at all.
  • Blizzard fail at balancing - The whole time I played it felt like a big old balancing act by Blizzard with regards to class balance. Too many classes leads to too many combinations.

As others have said, try the trial if you want to see how it is, however for me the game didn't kick off until about level 20 when you start to get some decent talents etc. I'd also say it may be worth waiting for the new expansion to start out because they're revamping the old areas. There is a marked difference between the old areas and the quality of the newer ones due to the experience they obviously gained over the years of designing for the game.

As many have said, get the trial. I played for since Vanilla (on and off) recently had a 1.5 year break and went back to it, but haven't had the time to devote to it at the moment, so only playing sporadically. The best time I've had in WoW over the years (in fact in many other mmo's I've played too) is with a decent guild/group of friends questing, having a laugh etc. Sadly I find guilds are either too hardcore or not organised enough, with people leaving every five mins - doesn't seem to be any middle ground any more :(

- it's quite a grind and most of the quests are boring and repetetive

Odd, I found WoW one of the few mmorpgs that didn't feel like a total grind - Even more so these days with the changes they've made to the game. 70-80 is slower ofc, but the continent has more interesting quests.

Retarded grindfest ? You mean EARNING your stuff, not like now if you need it, you have it. No matter if you raid.
