Selling A Bike Privately - Should I Be Concerned?

I had my S1000RR up on AutoTrader, eBay and various forums for £8k from early Sep to a week ago, but it didn't sell.

With that in mind, I put it on eBay for £7k on a week long bid, which ends next Saturday and I had a chap ring up today and, after a bit of haggling, we settled on £7200.

I know it's not the MOST money I could get for it, but it's mid-Oct and I've found the bike I think I want, so I thought I'd go for it.

What's the best way to do this securely? Ask for a bank transfer? Am I being paranoid about being handed a bunch of fake notes?

Thanks for the reassurance guys, I've asked him to pay by bank transfer so that everything is sorted. I'll let you know how it goes!

BT and have someone with you at the meeting, just in case...

Yeah, definitely. Without wanting to sound paranoid, you never know who is going to turn up/how many, etc. Will be sure not to do it solo!

If you are a moron then yeah, bloke at work took £4k for his car in cash and didn't know it was fake at the time, his own fault though.. :p

To be fair, I took £4k in cash to my last bike purchase when I bought my Street Triple. The guy offered to take bank transfer, but wouldn't let me test ride without full asking price in hand, so I basically gave him £4k as a "deposit" to take the bike for a spin to ensure it was all 100% legit.

Bike sold and off with its new owner! Typically the chap tried to offer me less than we agreed when he arrived, but I stood my ground.

Now, time to ring up Triumph tomorrow and buy myself a Thruxton!
