Selling laptop with backup windows cd - legalities?

I have a sony laptop I want to sell that has a windows XP home license with it, but I don't have the XP CD. If I make a copy of a windows XP CD is it ok to sell the laptop with a backup (baring in mind it does have a legal license - with license sticker on the machine)?

As far as I know, no. Making the copy is an illegal act in itself, regardless if you have a license.

However, not a lot of people will probably care. I know most of my mates wouldn't.

When I sold mine I included a ghost image of the hard drive.

Just restore the Sony before you sell it. Press F10 when it's booting.

FYI, copying a random CD probably wont work anyway. You cant mix retail and OEM media & cd keys in the first point, and then not all OEM CDs are the same - the bigger vendors have their own product IDs.

In short, you would need another, Sony, OEM disk to copy.
