can i do this using online banking ? i need to get $208 to an american account for a friend whos buying me a cpu and posting it but im not sure how to get the money to him, i would use paypal but they charge all sorts of fee`s

No you cant.

If you are sending the payment to the states, to an account that is NOT in your own name, you must visit a branch with 2x forms of ID.

You cannot make international payments online, and unless you are sending it to an account in another country, that has your own name on it, you cant do it on the phone.

International payments cost £20 for standard, £30 for priority.

Correct.

No personal account in the UK will allow you to make international payments via online banking, and only 1 allows you to do them over the phone iirc.

If you hold a Barclays account, you MUST do this in the branch, unless its going to an account in your own name @ the destination country.
