I'm off work at the moment and I'm getting incredibly bored sat around the house when the GF is at work,

Can anyone recommend a good series to watch over the next couple of weeks,

Here are some series I have watched and really enjoyed in the past :-

Lost
Dexter
House
Red dwarf
Walking dead
Band of brothers

Animated series :-

Family Guy
American dad
South park
Futurama
Simpsons

I have watched more but can't think of any off the top of my head, I can be pretty geeky but anime is a step too far, Batman the animated series was wicked though :p

Game of Thrones is certainly decent watching. If you liked Walking Dead then Jericho might be of interest to you (tho its not Zombies but is post apocalypse survival).

Might also be interested in Chuck the first season can be pretty absorbing.

I really want to watch game of thrones I missed it online and it hasn't been released yet, I'm not into piracy so will be buying this on blu-ray once it's out, I've been into the book series for a while, I read game of thrones a few years back, I'm still reading a dance with dragons though,

I have heard a few good things about chuck, will order season 1 now, found it for £6 online

Any other suggestions from anyone?

If you even like sci-fi (your list of previously enjoyed shows suggests you do) then Battlestar Galactica is an absolute must.

I also heavily recommend the following...

The Shield - nowhere near as popular as it should be
The Sopranos
Game of Thrones

That is all.

24 will keep you busy for a while :p best tv show ever made!
Prison Break is also worth a watch.
Entourage without a doubt.
Two and a Half Men for laughs :)

The Wire / The Shield / The Sopranos.

Each have their own vibes, but if you're looking for drama I'd recommend watching the first season of those 3 before anything else.

Edit - Game of Thrones is fantastic though.

Breaking Bad and Justified, 2 of the best dramas running atm.

Battlestar Galactica should be compulsory viewing.

Fringe is a great X-Files type show - first season has a touch of monster-of-the-week, but towards the end it settles into a much wider story arc, which is fantastic.
