Server 2003 Folders permission questions

Hi there,

I have a query for your server 2003 boffs out there, I have a client who wants to lock down the files on their server so that all but 2 users are unable to move them, this has come about because some of their users like to happy click and whole directories vanish into another location.

now ive use the nt security method and dissallowed deleting of the files and so in turn stoppe the users from moving the files, however this has caused other issues. The users are now unable to rename files and folders they have created. So i've had to remove this method and allow full access again.

Is there any way to prevent only moving and deletion of the files but still allow renaming? Is there some magical 3rd party program that will do this task?

Deny Delete.

Should stop users from Cutting a file out or deleting it.

You have to go into Advanced and set it there.

yea, this is how i did it the first try, buttttt when people create a folder, they are unable to rename it

if this is the only wat to do this, then they will have to live with it, i was wondering if there was any other way to do it? 3rd party program or somthing?

Do they absolutely have to rename folders?

Perhaps you should revisit your storage areas and security if they are allowed to rename but not delete?

Agreed, as I'm aware you have to have it one way or another. Rename and can move them, or can't and they are stuck.

Surely you can allow the people who create their own folder to have the pemission to rename/move, it's just every other one they should be able to touch?

yea i think i'll just have to restrict the happy clickers of the group, after looking around a bit, i cant seem to find a way to stop them from just moving them.

Thank you for confirming my thoughts though, didnt think there was another way to have the best of both worlds, ill just restrict the clumsy and click happy members of the company.
