BBC: Alien hunters 'should look for artificial intelligence'

Run SETI on a GPU?
Run SETI on only one PC?

Apologies for there being no news post last week. Hopefully the weekly news will be just that from now on.

Our RAC has skyrocketed once again and is now approaching 800,000! Can we reach it?

Welcome to the new members, and as always congrats to the tiffy winners! Don’t forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant urls to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum! If you think you have been missed off the milestones list, please let me know and I’ll add you manually.

Cheers TT = thanks for the news, good to see us doing so well, and maybe its me, but after initial problems the outage period isn't seeming so bad now...

T'is good to have the news back :D

I have no doubt that we can reach +800k RAC - I have some goodies arriving Monday by way of OcUK - hopefully it should add 30 to 40K to my RAC - hence the reason edge is getting so edgy:D

Plus TBag & Halz are not too far behind me - pity I can't step up my plan(s) - looks like I too will be facing the TBag stomp.

I'll be back in work (school) from 1 Sept and my RAC and credit will climb back up to about 1000 RAC/7000 credit per week. I'm having issues getting my desktop PC to run GPU so I need to sort that out ( a BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) to give it's full name).

I've got the lastest boinc software, latest CPU optimised apps from t' interweb and under boinc it is picking up the GPU but my GPU monitor is not picking up any threads running in the GPU. Any ideas?

Silly question, but have you downloaded all the SETI CUDA files (including drivers)? You also need to make sure that the required CUDA-related information has been added to the app_info file. Lastly, is the 'use GPU' option enabled within your SETI preferences?

I have CUDA 2 drivers downloaded. what info needs added to the app_info file and yes, the 'use GPU' option enabled. Anything else?

Add the following into your app_info.xml (located in Data\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu):

This is from my app_info.xml. The GPU app I use is MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_noKill_FPLim2048.exe (an optimised app provided by the Lunatics website). If you're using a different app then change any instances of MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_noKill_FPLim2048.exe to the correct file name.

Please excuse me, I just fell off my chair when I read that (laughed so hard my ribs hurt).

:D :D :D

I wouldn't worry too much - it will take a week or two for it to kick in - at which point TBag should be well and truly past me.

100k - possible (not probable) maybe when the RMA returns (still no news)

Unfortunatly, I'mnot the government - my budget can't stretch for two - if it did it would only be a budget system(s).

I think three rigs should suffice for now - hopefully they will net a profit of about +90k RAC :D
