Run SETI on a GPU?
Run SETI on only one PC?

Apologies for the slightly late news today, but I was involved in an online whisky tasting with another forum I frequently participate on (hic!) :D

Berkeley have had problems this week with the air conditioning unit playing silly buggers, explaining why some of the numbers this week seem a little odd. Hopefully the issue has been fully resolved and normality (if there is such a thing with SETI!) has now resumed.

Welcome to the new members, and as always congrats to the tiffy winners! Don't forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant urls to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum! If you think you've been missed off the milestones list then please let me know so I can add you manually.

H'onwards and h'upwards!

Sometimes -arrggghh!!! :mad::mad::mad:

Looks like me H50 is titz! The pump assembly has developed the dreaded clicking noise, which seems to be a known problem with these units. I'll have to switch back to my monster Noctua cooler whilst the RMA goes through.

Lucky I didn't sell my Noctua!!!!!

....and I just got tickets to see Jean Michel Jarre in dear old Glasgeee!!!!! Been waiting to see him live for years:cool:

I think the servers are having a bad hair day ! I certainly hope my 3 ap tasks are'nt (EDIT - doh) gonna take 3 days each - I've just re-scheduled 340 VLARS (christ, my DCF is gonna go throught the roof) - and I have about an additional 600 pucka CPU tasks!!!

The duration estimates have been off for me by a factor of about 3 for weeks now. Not sure they've cracked the server-side estimating stuff! :p

:o I have now was just sat back in amazement downloading one after the other quite funny really. Must admit i am impressed with Einstein running multiple gpu tasks and the gpu rarely goes over 55 degrees nice, i could get used to that although Mr Edge reckons the cpu could be the bottleneck when doing that.....worth a try :)

****Way to go Mr Marine sah****

Chuffed for ya lad :D:D:D

Have read about your ongoing car woes MI. Am so glad it's working now as it's an absolute beauty :)

Toxic, don't forget that the CPU bottleneck with Einstein will purely be down to the fact that each GPU task requires one CPU core, so you physically cannot run more Einstein instances than you have cores (or logical cores if your CPU's hyperthreaded; you seem to have so much hardware that I have no idea what it is you have, let alone what you're running on what!).

Tell you the truth TT am a bit bored tonight so am just trying to push this i7 to the limit, which for me is 3.4 stable clock and as many instances of whatever project i can lay my hands on.
Managing to get 12 cuda tasks and 4 cpu tasks running on einstein it's funny as hell trying to figure out how far you can push something, am fortunate in that i usually pull up before the precipice rushes up to greet me...lallalallalalaaaaa :D

Managed to lower the 1 cpu per gpu task to .33 and theyre chugging along....not as fast but definately working, normal operations will resume tommorrow for now am quite enjoying myself :D

**Edit**

Anyone have any idea on the following: i know i can choose not to use cpu in seti options and that it will apply to all boinc projects, unless i specify a different location with the appropriate prefferences.
My question is how on earth can i set prefs to do gpu +astropulse only??? ta muchly
