With the sad departure of The right Honourable Mr loudbob to the foldytastic crew our rac has nose dived a little to 10th place, which is to be expected and while we wish him well we look forward to the new lunatics optimised app ...... you watch how quick he legs it back :p:D

In the mean time our 2 biggest producers Mr Reaver and Mr derv are slugging it out for the top spot rac wise ... neck and neck just about.

Well its allmost "that" time of year again, no not christmas "The OcUk 2012Distributed Computing Competition" hurrah!!

We can work out the finer details of the competition between us wether it be a lottery style jobby or whatnot but we are going to need prizes! While the whole world it seems is tightning its belt financially i would not expect anyone to donate cash but you are welcome to contribute a little or even pieces of unwanted pc hardware.

As donations of £ or hardware come in we can rank it in the prize pool which we may as well start this week!!

I shall be putting in a begging phonecall this afternoon when i call OcUk to order my gpu's, lets see if our new Caseking overlords can match the generous prize donation of last year.

Oh and if this "end of the world" thing should pan out i reserve the right to run around screaming like a girlie and light my last ciggarette with the £50 note ... just so you know :)

The OcUk 2012 Distributed Computing Competition Prize Pool!

1. £50 - ToxicTBag
2. £50 - Mr Loudbob sah
:D

Morning Scott :)

Your all set to stomp a few folk make sure you issue a "parp" just before you pass them in the table its considered good manners or so I am told plus it makes you feel better when you can label someone "slacker" :D

Mr TBag sah.....

As you know I have been waiting with anticipation on the new Opt Apps from our Lunatic friends - however, it seem something is afoot in the folding camp........

GPU's may at last get some serious and deserved attention with some possible big bonus points - in which case I may very well challenge Mr Biffa for top spot (RAC)......

So, I may very well find it rather difficult in deciding which camp to support (although I must admit - SETI has always been my preferred choice).

In the meantime - whilst I am supporting the Folding Camp - I will donate £50 to the Prize Pool (like your good self) to show that even though I'm gone - I'm not forgotton.

Just let me know where and how to send it and I shall forward it on Wednesday (payday).

:D

Good morning Mr Loudbob sah!

Very generous donation to the prize pool there thank you very much, am pottering around with a few ideas for the competition itself am thinking something along the lines of "beans in the bath" , or whatever ideas others might come up with so feel free to chip in peeps :)

Well that is good news of sorts for the foldytasticness of Team 10 its about time gpu's had there day, as long as the science gets done its all good ..... just remember where your home is !:)

how does one issue a parp then :)

Easy as pieness Scott, soon as your within say a day or two of overtaking someone in the stats give it something along the lines of ....

"Mr ....... oweing to your undue care and lack of attention your slacking ways have forced me to evict you from your present cell to the one below"

We do like to have a go when we parp someone as long as its allways in good spirits :)

:) Ahhh the wifey thing, rather than looking to hide it why not explain to her what it is and what distributed computing and folding can do ..... girls love all that "cure disease" and the like. Not altogether sure how she would handle looking for ET etc but theres only one way to find out:D

You Scott are turning into a right little power hungry cruncher!! Good on you and enjoy it but keep an eye on power consumption if your running a full rack of 480s n what not.
There will come a time when you will want or "need" to get something a bit more power efficient took me ages to come to my senses but I had a blast in the meantime. :)

Not really sure on what it might be Dave although I did do the windows 8 thing am just about to install gpu's so if I get the same behaviour it could be an omen will let you know.
Hope you don't go to pastures new but wish you well either way, I don't honestly think there seems to be a lot of interest in anything of late, no ideas comeing forward for the competition and all that or maybe its just me ...... :)

:o I badly wanted 2 x 690 but £1600 made me cry just thinking about it so decided on 3 x 7970 test the mileage with them if its garbage then will go with my first thought.

I cannot seem to get em running properly with optimised app, I fink I have garbled my options its been a long few days anyone care to lend a helping hand to a cruncher with single digit iq

Am haveing great difficulties getting boinc/seti/optimised app running on 7970's. It will download astropulse tasks and for the first few it did them in 40 minutes or so now gpu useage flatlines and occasionally spikes upto 10-15%.
First thought was there is a problem with the gpu's, tested each one individually then started running milkyway as a test and they barrel along at 90% plus useage etc.
So am thinking I may have a setting in the optimised app set incorrectly, would you good peeps give this the once over and let me know if there is anything you think I could be doing?

Thanks in advance :)

If it makes a difference it s a 3930k oc to 4ghz and 3 x 7970's all at stock

Been a right royal carry on at the towers, rma/change of mind/lack of money all the usual pillava but had some good news today. Finally got a good set of hex core xeons and after 3 days of trying got the sr2 working as well.

Am going to catch up on stuff i have missed and get this rig all singing/dancing etc and enjoy the run up to christmas i will start crunching again between christmas and the new year.

Yeah i know for some people its easy to look on and see "oh he's not crunching ..... traitor" or "oh yeah he is crunching again" but the ups and downs of the last few months and you would understand the break soooooooo......

I dont mind a sentence of 1 week on old spanky infact i think i will enjoy it :)

Thank you chaps tis an honour to be back in the vacinity ....... am not going to venture near the overclocking section for a few days just want to enjoy the little git at stock :)

Just waiting on a second set of bolts to arrive then I can wc the second cpu, looks a bit funky with 1 on water 1 stock cooler but I knew I was onto a winner with me anglegrinded xeon backplate and asus go faster stripes (like I said its only temporary :o)
