Myself and two friends have been arguing about this for hours, no one will be convinced of anything until we see some proper benchmarks, anyone able to direct me to some which compares these two cards?

at stock the x1800 is faster
if overclocking the 7900gt will pull ahead but not by much
in benchies it depends what games or 3d mark you look at some will say the x18 others will say the 7900

Cost/Performance the x1800xt wins based on the current deal going...
7900gt is better when overclocked, volt modded and with a new cooler but frankly its hard to claim its £50 better.
You can't go wrong with either really... both great cards at what they do, but price decides the winner for me.

The 7900gt performs identical to the 7800gtx at stock bar one or two insignificant frames here and there.
7900gt is better when overclocked, volt modded and with a new cooler but frankly its hard to claim its £50 better.

Also have to look at IQ (HDR+AA + generally better IQ).
All personal opinion.... but one which is shared by many. With two cards with similar performance but many different pros and cons, there can only be a "this card is best for me" winner... not a "this card is best for all".
So for me.... tis the X1800XT.

in most of the 7900 GT reviews, it was found to be very much the same as the X1800 XT. One car getting 2 or 3 more FPS than the other here or there, but neither card being noticeably "better" than the other in any game.

The X1800 xt is the faster card at stock,and at 170 is a good buy.
However the 7900 GT overclocks better and many people on this forum including me have higher benchmark scores with thier 7900GT's than heavily overclocked x1800's.
