Just filling out an application for a large offshore company and I am faced with a question

Sexual Orientation - Bisexual, Hetro,Gay,Lesbian,Transgender , prefer not to answer.

Now I am 100% hetro but my question is, do you think they would be more likely to offer you an interview if you put your preference as something other than straight?

Legally they cannot think that way but taking that out of the question, some people may move towards a sexuality they prefer.

Maybe they are asking it to see who works close to who. A homo with a hetro to try stop office relationships :p

Its offshore work, as in boats.

Since when has 'transgender' been a sexual orientation? The people that write these forms are trying so hard to be PC that they stumble over themselves revealing that they haven't got a clue.

There should be another option just after 'prefer not to answer'; 'none of your ******* business!'

Well what sexual orientation are you if you're a hermaphrodite or have had a sex change?
well
hermaphrodite would just put down "unlucky"
and sex change would put down whatever they currently are.

You will be either a man or a woman, depending on your legal position and stage of transformation but that has no bearing whatsoever on what type of person you would prefer to have sex with.

How long are you at sea? Maybe it's a privacy thing, if you're using communal showers etc. That said, you can just lie.

I don't think you are more likly to get a job not being straight, unless of course you're applying for the police :p

Presumably in the gender box you would put down whatever sex you are legally, and then your sexuality would be in relation to that. For example if I had a sex change to become a woman I would put my sex down as female and my sexuality as homosexual.
