Sharing too much?

Some people do rather air their dirties on here, but it's no worse than FB.

Also, has said friend typed anything about you that you'd rather not have read? That could make for an awkward time next time you encounter one another. I say keep reading, there's bound to be something here that'll taint your friendship forever more.

true and with FB there's photographic evidence.

lol i've resisted the urge to read more

It's to do with the fact that the internet acts as a screen between yourself and the real world. People will admit things they wouldn't admit in real life because there are no consequences [most of the time] and they can get advice or opinion from others in the community. Pretty obvious stuff.

I think it must be a surprise to see all this stuff here if you didn't know it about him and if he's shy in real life. That must be a bit odd.

Oh, and if people are saying you sound familiar it's because it's an old tradition here of people trying to be more clever than they actually are and hinting you're an old banned poster under a new name. Which is actually quite rude and only highlights their own ignorance. However, these days people are very bad at being clever here so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah it is strange seeing everything written down....good for him for talking and being open etc....but still don't know what to make of it.

Ah ok - the familiar thing makes more sense know. I can assure you all I am no old banned poster under a new name! Speaking of being new.....is there anyway this site updates you when someone has replied to a thread/post?

Who the hell drops bombs for an hour. Talk about tight ring piece.

Wait, wat.

I don't think so, other than the thread icon will be yellow rather than grey when there is a new post.

Alternatively, you can subscribe to a thread and browse your subscribed threads using the 'quick links' tab :)

If you subscribe to threads then you can check for updates in your User CP, you can check under the New Posts button for anything that has been updated but if you don't subscribe to threads it's still a case of remembering what you've posted in. If you subscribe to threads it might be worth turning email notifications off though as if you participate in quite a few threads it can mean that you end up with lots of notifications.

As for the amount that people share - I suppose it is just down to what your friend feels comfortable with. Maybe there's also something about the perceived anonymity also that helps although a fair number of people here will have met others on the site e.g. in a Motors meet or via a meet arranged in one of the other sub-forums, there's a London meet being arranged in this sub-forum for next month.

To put things in perspective for you, there are other sites on the internet whose forums do not demand registration. You just walk in and post. There, people will literally post anything they can think of because they are anonymous. The internet can be one big cauldron of secrecy.

And don't even get me on people with multiple aliases.

But has this taken place of speaking to people face to face?

For some, yes. For others, no.

Some people do both - like me - I'm very open in forums and in real life. There are other people who are very quiet in real life but who open up on the Internet because they find it far easier to express themselves there.

You just had to sign up didnt you.....

Slightly ironic that you would come on here and moan about me talking sharing my business on here isnt it lol!

When you couldve just called or sent me a text.

Can a mod please close or delete this thread!
