Hi All,

Is there anyone on here from around this part of the world that could offer an opinion of what this place is like?

We're looking at relocating to the Hitchin area (work in Hatfield) and we like the look of Shefford.

cheers

Im just up the road in Letchworth, know a few people who live in Lower Stondon, its a bit of a quiet place but isnt to far away from places to go out etc. The dog racing track at henlow is a pretty good night out, not been for a while though. Also being in Beds Council tax is a bit lower than the other places in north herts, may be worth while checking that out though.

I live in Shefford, it's a nice quiet village if that's your thing. There's a few decent pubs, couple of fantastic Indian restaurants and not much else. If you want a gym the closest one is about 5 minutes drive away (Bannatynes in Fairfield Park), Arlesey train station is about 5 minutes drive away too. MK, Bedford and Stevenage are only 20 minutes away if you want something more lively.

There are two trains an hour down to London (takes about 40 minutes), you want to train it to Hatfield you might need to change at Hitchin/Stevenage.

If there's anything in particular you want to know feel free to email me.

I live in Letchworth also. Shefford is quiet but a nice place to live but not much to do there, couple of nice old fashioned pubs there to :)

20-25 mins from the M1, 10 mins from the A1, and 30 mins from the M25, so its a good location also.

That's where I grew up. I'm off down there for a week from tomorrow morning.

I know, but I've a hard time keeping in contact with you since my move ;)
I'll get you on facebook later and you better reply!
Yours sincerely, Purchasing Director, PedZed Computing!

But yeah, not a bad corner of the uk for living, local attractions and commuting location

Can you not look at actually living in Hitchin? I drive through Hitchin on my way to work. I work at Mos Eisley spaceport (Luton Airport) and if I do move closer Hitchin is as close as I'd tolerate and it seems quite a nice area.

Even a run from Cambridge to Hitchin is only half hour, much less if you are on the Royston side.

Bedford isn't that bad. There's just bugger all there.

As a frequent commuter of the X5 bus, Bedford seems OK until you get to the centre (where the bus station is) - when the bus stops for 10 minutes I politely decline the driver's offer to get off the bus and get some fresh air, and instead insist that the bus is completely locked :p

Yeah bedford bus station really needs knocking down

I have very fond memories of Bedford Bus Station. A friend and I were walking through with a guitar each when a hobo stopped us and asked to start a band with him. I then recall him singing at the top of his lungs, in a full bus station. But yes, knock it down :D

In fact, many of my fond memories of Bedford are to do with hobos, the majority of whom found themselves homeless after finishing a stretch at HMP Bedford. Legendary.
