Ship wreck at Branscombe (pics)

find a nice remote beach and set up shop. Something reasonably close to the wreckage, and then just sit tight and wait for the money. Pop a container open, grab what you can, and leg it before the old bill show up. IMO.

Can the company who own the ship really claim salvage rights?

I heard that anyone can claim salvage rights on anything they find washed off shore which contradicts that.

Same, and what cheeses me off further is the fact they arent going to start pumping the oil away until monday morning, lazy or what

Infact, i dont know how boats such as that one was even allowed in the channel with the weather like last week forcast

Loot some of the stuff and sell on ebay TBH.

Probably because it takes time to prepare to remove that quantitu of fuel. And there were other ships in the area that were fine. Some in the business suspect bad loading combined with a por repair after that part of the hull was damaged a few years back when it ran aground. The bad loading if true was probably down to people declaring incorrect weights for their container. Like an aeroplane, the contianer ships need to be carefully balanced.

Yeah saw this on the news not too long ago, nice pictures though, shame about the pollution it will cause though :(

Aye, Doritos really are the scurge of the seas :D

The owners of that ship should be investigated. There's something funny going on here. A ship that passed it's safety exam 6 months ago should not have a hole in her side open up. (Yes the sea was rough, but a 60 odd thousand ton ship is built to take a rough sea.) That suggests to me that the hull plating was seriously thin due to corrosion in at least the place were the hole developed. There is no way that she will be refloated. They were saying on the news this morning that her bow and stern were rocking up and down at the same time which suggests she has broke her back. Basically the keel has snapped. If another heavy sea develops she will break up. Even if it stays calm they will have a nightmare trying to offload those containers that are still on board due to the shallow water not allowing a decent sized ship to come alongside to take them on. The only way i can see them doing it is by bringing in a large floating crane and several barges to ferry the containers ashore.

This could get a whole lot worse yet.

I saw something about this on BBC News 24 last night before Click came on.

The people on the beach are filling out forms the police are giving out so they can claim salvage rights to anything washed up on the beach.

What i saw was people on the beach with a open contrainer which was full of wooden barrels and people rolling them up the beach and filling van's/car's up, this was in the night.

That dorito's picture does'nt half look odd and funny heheh

People who may find a washed-up container are being asked to stay well clear and report it to Portland Coastguard

The MCA will be on their bottoms asking for maintenence records and the like. Also, who is gonna get the telling off? The owners or the management company? ;)

I want to drive down and take some stuff off the beach :p

Didnt you read the previous posts?

Its walk down to the beach and drive off in a new BMW! ;)

And WHAT!!! your post confuses me, does that mean you can salvage? :o

The form means that when the salvage rights owners (Smit) are ready they can contact you to decide what to do with it - be it retrieve it from you, let you keep it or bill you for it.
