Hi guys,

Just a quick one...

Selling something on eBay and I've just recieved a question asking if I'd ship the item to greece.

Is this safe, or will I be sucked into a nigerian-type scam?

Cheers.

Yeah waste of effort or scam, I don't know why people ignore the "will ship to uk only" on the item listing page and ask questions like this.

check out his past transactions and check if he paypal verified.. then its alright ..you see we are not all scum over here. Id say you are ignorant.

Where did I say you were all scum? I'd say you were jumping to conclusions.

If you were selling something and a person from another country had asked to buy it (I was selling a Pioneer head unit - lots of them to buy in Greece I'm sure), I'm sure you would want to check whether that country had a history of scammers, wouldn't you?

Btw, he only had 3 feedback.

I’d be somewhat cautious because of not having much feedback, not because they’re from Greece, beyond it being abroad. Greece is a member of the EU, not a tin-pot dictatorship. Would depend on the value of the item.

there you go the guy said it all..

Instead of: Efour2 "Being greek gives it a +50% scam you bonus instantly."

It sounds insulting - its like me saying "being british gives you a 50% gay-ness bonus instantly" ...I think we shouldn't be like that and use our brains a bit more..

Well, I didn't mean for my post to sound insulting, so I'm sorry about that.

But I did think it a little weird, where someone from another country was interested in a £30 head unit.

That was my point :)

I've bought a coffee grinder from Germany, a holster for my phone from Hong Kong and out-of-print books and PC games from the US via the bay and no seller had a problem shipping them to me in the UK even though I don't have massive amounts of feedback. Would they have treated me differently if they knew I was Greek? :p

PS. head unit = headphones? It's not uncommon for particular models of hifi kit to be unavailable in other parts of Europe, especially if it's made here in the UK and not exported much. Shipping is likely to cost 50% of the cost of the item, but if the guy wants it, just insist on getting your money before sending it and  @ him. His money to waste.

PPS. I believe it's against ebay rules to insist on payment via cash transfer services like Western Union without providing an alternative. You could tell him cash transfer or bank transfer, I think that'd be ok by ebay. Both have hefty fees which the buyer would be liable for, so in total buying it from you will cost him 200% the cost of the item. I don't see why he'd be interested under those circumstances, but as long as the money is in your account before you send it and you get proof of postage it should be perfectly safe for you to send it.

Sorry if it came off as offensive. Just from my experience on the bay I have had 3 encouters with Greek nationals and each time it was a fraud/scam.

I am unlucky i guess, i always bump into the wideboys :)

no offence ment.

edited to correct mistake, and no its not like saying that, its like saying Its more hastle sending items abroad, with hefty P&P, and a high risk of damage. I ts a very cheap item £30 did he say. If the greek chap gets it damaged no doubt it will kick up a fuss and its really not worth that aggro for a measly £30

I wouldnt sell it to anyone out of the country , if you do get unlucky you have absoloutly no leg to stand on. At least if it was the UK you can threaten violence meaningfully.
