Let Israel deal with Iran from their history they really don't like losing their own men and the soldiers are experienced in combat in that environment.

Not going to be any conflict. Will be done through negotiations. They release our tanker, we release there say nice words, or even hold each others tankers for a while, but no actual conflict to get the tanker back.

Iran is not dumb, they know they can't well go after American tankers who have plenty of assets in the region and supposedly armed aircraft as per CNN keeping an eye on American tankers, but not so much British ones, will not be any retaliation in terms of arms, more so once the tanker is close to the Iranian coast.

I suspect the EU and NATO will be very, very quiet. Time to test this special relationship with the US...

I reckon we will have jointly struck Iran by the morning.

Even more so when you remember that we only took the Iranian ship because the US requested it - counter to the opinions of several European allies...

Unfortunately it’s always innocent people that get stuck in the middle.

Considering BoJo will be our PM in 4 or 5 days, it seems silly he's not even in the cabinet at the moment and therefore not in the COBR meeting...

For such a loose mouthed idiot, he doesn't deserve it.

Why does it matter to you? Are you a soldier?

I'm sure the all the civilians that have died in the UK since 2000 to exterior conflicts would say it didn't matter...

I doubt their close enough to get involved.
I know you didn't mean "close" in a literal sense, but it should be remembered that the distance from Iran to Russia is roughly the same as the distance from London to Birmingham (Azerbaijan isn't very big) and so while standing with it's buddy Iran against the US/UK may not be a smart move from Russia's POV, we may find that they have a differing opinion on not letting us overthrow and ally and install a puppet western government 2 hours drive from their border.

Also, Azerbaijan may not be a Soviet Socialist Republic anymore (so Russia no longer share a border with Iran) but it is still very much within the Russian sphere of influence (as a CIS member) so it could be argued Russia still share a political border with Iran.
