Shot Stopper: Smart Guns Get Smarter

I saw the concept for this a few years ago. Seems like a good idea, IIRC theres a statistic somewhere about how many people get shot with their own gun.

lots
and they where talking about this years ago, but using microchip implants or rings etc

I don't know about this. Seems like a good idea but until the tech is really reliable I don't see people like the Police picking it up. Could you imagine being shot at and your gun saying 'nope, that's not your gun, I won't fire'?

Is this technology really any better? Say for example that at the VT shooting someone had managed to disarm the gun man of one of his guns, they couldn't have then shot him with it.
If you don't want to be shot with your own gun, don't carry one.

Nice technology though, I would have been tempted just to implant RFID tags that they use for pets then any cop could use any cop gun. Plus the technology is pretty much tried and tested.

Why would they have needed to shoot him with it? There were far more of them, all they need to do is sit on him or something until the cavalry arrive ;)

You're right, because trying to invoke a positive change is an utter waste of time

but how will you get rid of the 200 , 000,000 guns in circulation?
if you could get rid of them, then why not just ban guns altogether?

Offer an amnesty? Perhaps the technology could be retro fitted to these weapons and then have that made a legal requirement? I can't see the US banning guns altogether TBH.

I believe this would be a very important step in arming the UK Police force. One of the main factors against doing it was that there was a big risk of officers getting jumped and thier weapons taken off them and being used in other crimes...

Because that is so much easier than buying one off the street.

i dont think police would ever adopt guns like these. a policeman uses his weapon to protect himself and the public. the sensor could break or not read his print properly and this would obviously be bad if a gangbager was pointing a glock at him.

this biometric gun is like a hybrid car, pointless.

This will be great as all computer things end up failing anyway no one will be able to shoot lol
