The euro also only starts at 5c.
Been years since I regularly paid for anything in cash that wasn't notes, always use cards or notes, hate having a pocket full of change when I'm out or get home after a night out. You don't even need pound coins for the trolley at most supermarkets now since the new pound coin came out and supermarkets just stopped bothering with them.. Even my local bus routes have contactless terminals for tickets.

Heard them discussing this on the radio today; they said 'prices would not increase as a result'. I call ********. Anything which is 99p would become £1. Hell, if anything was 51p for example, it'd become 55p. **** it, anything that was 90p would become £1. Why? Because **** you, that's why.

Totally agree with this. Personally, I find my bank statements too slow to track spending - either the bank or retailer taking 3-4 days to debit my account is ridiculous these days.
Lol everytime a thread appears on cash/coins you get the usual utterly ignorant and foresightless blind people saying "what's the point of cash let's get rid of it" and whatnot.
Seriously? First it was gold and pounds of real sterling, then they relinquished all real currency with IOUs because they wanted to keep the real "worth" in their vaults, and now they're going fully electronic so when the impending economic collapse happens what do people think they're going to do? Goodness me think people, have some foresight.
Not to mention the utterly horrendous ways these electronic ledger maintainers are milking cash by swiping up to 5% off ALL world transactions under the guise of maintaining their systems. Lol. What are people doing, unbelievable setting ourselves up for absolute catastrophe.

The alternative to paper and electronic transactions is paying for a brand new RTX 2080ti with a dumptruck full of coins.
Electronic transactions are never going away short of an apocalypse level event in which case the type of metal coins is the least of your problems. Humanity evolves, just like the systems we use do. You don't need to go to a well with a bucket for your monthly bath anymore either.
okay then, given you're on a forum run by an electronics shop how do you pay for your purchases? Do Overclockers do C.O.D now?
I'm not saying electronic funds coexisting with real cash and sterling is a bad thing. I'm saying the complete eradication of real cash and coins is bad.
Pretty much all my everyday spending is done using cash it's much faster and more economical than cards. Buying things from ocuk/online is exceptional purchases only.
and my own experience is the exact opposite, I almost never use cash, and certainly not coins and the only time I have ever used coppers is pouring my shrapnel collection into the bucket at the bank to be counted and added back to my account every 6 months or so, and yes, by then it is ******* heavy to carry around. Like I said earlier, even the busses around me all accept cards, and I'm in the middle of Derbyshire at least 10 miles from anywhere remotely interesting so it's not even a big city thing either.

I've got to say I agree with this, after a similar thread a while back I kept an informal log of every-time I used coins, it's was only four times in two months (car parking, a coinstar (#ironic), a charity shop and lastly for a workplace lunch), very occasional exceptions are nights out where I tend to want to keep a certain amount of money to help budgeting but with Monzo that's all history. If cash is king, then it's time for a coronation as debit / credit cards are know in charge.
To be fair a Lott of the beggars are just ****** up druggies who would rob any family or loved ones they had
Only thing cards benefit are people who want to milk as much cash as possible. Owners of big chain supermarkets who want half of all revenues in their back pockets. And we have plebs whining about the logistics of cash and it's hard to count lol. Oh boy dumbing down of the nation at its finest.
Really worrying how the elite set things up im a way which benefit them mostly. And then we have plebs who just give into the system completely baselessly. Or utterly silly basis like "I can't count" and "I'm too weak" lol. Is it really that difficult to just say "no thanks I'll count my own cash thanks and I certainly am not letting you keep 5% of the world's transactions just for counting my money for me."

It's not hard to count, but yes, it is easier to not use cash, that is the entire point. I lost my wallet a few weeks ago and it had a fair bit of cash in it as well as all my cards, about £160 in fact, turns out it got handed in, guess what was missing and what wasn't touched when I went to pick it up.
Not only that, but IF any money had been spent on my credit cards or my debit card I would still be covered and most if not all would be returned to my account. By the time I could pick it up I had already cancelled and ordered new cards, which was mildly annoying but still didn't cost me a penny, unlike the fair chunk of notes I had already lost.
Yes, before you say it I should have been more careful, and you're right, but people do make mistakes, and that day the least of my worries was my wallet as it turned out.
You do realise it's much easier to track spending when you literally have it all at your fingertips 24/7, you can even go back and check what you spent on any day you like going back years, and I'm talking to the penny.

What exactly is the difference between a bit of paper/polymer or coin that I've got from my bank which deducts from my balance which essentially tells the person I give it to they now have that value they can increase their account balance by giving it to their bank. To a packet of data which is doing the same thing?

Sufficed to say I am wanting future generations to be able to experience the same freedoms and liberties and happiness in life for as many generations as possible.
