My understanding is that BF3 will use as much VRAM as your system has available, which is really something that all games should do. The AnandTech review shows that at 2560x1600 (with FXAA) the 680 - despite have 1GB less VRAM - outperforms the 7970 by 14fps (65.5 to 51.1). Guru3D shows the 680 leading by 5fps when using MSAA, though at 38fps and 33fps respectively it's not playable. In all the reviews I've seen the 680 leads the 7970, despite the 1GB difference in VRAM. It is likely that over the next couple of years we'll see titles where VRAM is a major factor in performance but that just isn't the case with any game on the market at the moment or for the foreseeable future.BF3 at 1440p can use up to 2.6gb vram. This is now, current, it's only likely to be more in the future as games become more graphically intensive.
