I'm bored and want to spend some money lol

I have a sapphire x1800xt 256mb at the minute. My monitor is a dell 24" 2405 native res is 1920x1200 which I try and play in as much as I can.

I'm a fan of racing games, NFS:MW, Outrun 2006, GTR and GTR2 (when its released)

also like the odd FPS (COD, Quake etc etc) and sports games (Tennis, football)

Not that keen on oblivion style games

Thinking about gettnig the HIS on deal of the week as it looks cool and will go really well in my windowed case.

Do you think it will be much better than my current card? I know it has double the ram and more pipelines but I'm after real world benefits rather than a higher score on 3dmark.

Thanks!

it will perform better than the 1800xt but maybe not as much as you might want it to. However...playing any game at 1920x1200 is seriously demanding and I think this may be a bit high for one card to playing at with all the bells and whistles on. Do you manage to play at that res with your 1800XT?

I use this sometimes to gauge performance off one card against another

Where games support 1900x1200 I do.

Need for speed only goes to 1600x1200 and it seems perfectly fine. I don't notice much stutter. Not sure if I've got any AA or AF on tho, I better check.

I did run oblivion in 1900x1200 with no AA and that seemed ok. I think I got a little stutter when I was walking around next to the boat but hardly enough to be a problem. Not that I really play oblivion anyway.

Not tried COD2 on the x1800xt yet.

Was playing outrun lastnight at 1900x1200 with max settings and that was a dream. Not slowdown at all, but it's not a demanding game at all.

Just saw that the HIS X1900XT ICEQ is on special. Hmmm, may get that to replace my trusty X850XT.

At high res the X1900XT will definitely handle AA & AF better than the X1800XT. On FPS it will be arround 15-20% faster (possibly the same for more demanding racers).

Snap! Looking forward to seeing SM3.0 and HDR in action and I hope to God ATI's claim of AVIVO H.264 acceleration is true or else I will be quite miffed.

Got mine this morning - wowzers. The card is massive. Just looking at it now, I don't even know whether it will fit comfortably in my case. Can't try until I get home ce soir.

Keep the thread updated on how that turns out, would you? I'm interested in this card too, I love the ICEQ cooler on my current 9800pro. ;) That size sounds like a bit of a bother...

worst ever upgrade ever, its an amazing card but at £300 for an extra 10 fps compared to my x1800xt i should have saved my money for DX10 but i wanted a cooler with an exhaust fan which i got but tbh it aint exactly a huge boost over my x1800xt

The x1800xt got the exact same cooler as x1900xt/xtx :)

The card is almost as long as the motherboard. It fitted in OK but obscures the little Asus chipset fan. Much quieter than my old X850XT though. I was surprised at the difference in noise levels.
