Should I buy a new car?

Without more any more pics I'm not going to comment further. You are withholding information to try and provoke a reaction as per usual.

I'm off to watch Top Gear.

So you only hit a kerb and ALL of the airbags went off?
Exactly.

I've gotten the other pics off my phone. They are all a bit crappy so I wasn't going to post them, but here's one that has the front in it. As you can see, no exterior damage. How else would the airbags have been deployed if there wasn't a sudden and serious deceleration from hitting the kerb? Also notice the location of the car - in the road.

I'm not trying to provoke a reaction. You've come in here and made assumptions and passed judgement based on your unlimited and infinite wisdom, and evidentially those assumptions were totally invalid.

that's a rubbish system then.. instead of replacing some suspension parts and a new wheel you now need a new car.. x]

I'd rather require a new car for a 30MPH accident than require new legs for a 50MPH accident just because someone wanted a less responsive safety system.

At what speed did you go into the kerb? Surely if you had slowed to go around a corner it would have been much less than 30?

Apparently so.

Something is not quite right if hitting a kerb at 30mph triggers all the airbags, yet my Mum's Golf Mk6 drove into the side of a Corsa (that pulled out into her path) at 30mph and only the pre-tensioners went off.

Hitting the side of a car at 30 is probably just about below the threshold - the side of the other car has plenty of give, and it's not a static object. There's routes for the energy to be dispersed.

I think this is a case of an unfortunate angle at an unfortunate speed.

me too.. if i hit a car or a wall or flipped over.. but not a wheel... he didn't even touch any part of the bodywork.. :o

why not just be honest from the start?
You posted to provoke a reaction, making out that you had had a major accident, when clearly you have had nothing of the sort.

Care to point out how?

Already have above, sliding a car doesnt mean all the forward motion translates to sideways motion - if you were actually doing 30 the closing speed with the kerb would be more like 10mph, if not less and the damage would have been more like Rover416i experienced when he did something stupid.

Neither did I when I hit the Transit hub in the outside lane of the M6. I got an instant flat on the drivers front but managed to safely pull over onto the hard shoulder. I don't quite know how considering the damage to the mechanicals.

I haven't posted a single dishonest word in this thread. As I've evidenced, airbags can be deployed in incidents as slow as 8 MPH.

It was the expectation and belief of certain individuals on here that this was no doubt serious and "bound to happen", but I personally have said nothing of the sort.

I think you know what really happened and you should use it as an opportunity to think about your driving style before someone gets hurt

that's really odd.
i wouldn't have expected any airbags to activate if you hit a kerb, let alone the side ones...
