As you may have already noticed MW1 and MW2 are 50% off on Steam, so I was wondering which one is better for gameplay.
The last COD I played was World at War due to the amount of servers it had so which one currently has the most servers and which is best for both campaign and online gameplay?

I'd get them both if I could but I'm on a tight budget this week :o

COD4 (ie MW1), because I can't for the life of me get the game lobby system to work in MW2, which sucks and because I geneuinely prefer the first MW.

However, SP in MW2 is more fun and COD4 will have a lot of pr0 players on it these days so it's not very newbie friendly. It's swings and roundabouts these days.

I recently played th SP campaign of MW2 and it was much better than I remembered. The graphics weren't too bad, either considering the engine's old.

For MP: MW1, although there are not many weapons to choose from and the graphics are dull.

MW1, online is probably the best of the COD bunch. MW2 however has some of the best co-op games ever made, Spec-ops is simply epic, Took us a while but me and a friend completed all Spec-ops and gained every star.

cod 4 one of best fps games ever made as still busy servers and fun

It was ok, but certainly not one of the best FPS games ever made!

Call of Duty 4 is the best of the series, all later games of the series were nowhere near as good IMO.

Nope, COD1 and COD2 + expansions were much better to play, but i agree the series has become worse with each release since then!

If you're interested in the multiplayer aspect, don't bother with Mw2 - it's completely dead on pc now and you'll be lucky to get a game in.

I've had no trouble finding games in MW2 on PC (tho a lot of players have migrated to alteriwnet) - the lobby system is a bit of a nightmare as it takes about 5 minutes of messing about before it starts finding appropriate games.

Only real problem with MW2 is the lobby system, cheating, if you get on a poor host and the odd badly balanced perk, that aside is a brilliant game - it does take quite a bit to get past those aspect tho.

For Multiplayer, I'd skip both, MW1 if you have to.

As for SP, play them both n order. It's still the best story out of the generic grey/brown "modern setting" shooters imo. You could do better though.

I've went for Modern Warfare 1 guys since it still has about 11,000 dedicated servers. I gave MW2 a look on a mates PC and it struggles to find me a team deathmatch under 100ms ping. I mean WTF?

It seems a little bit more realistic too...

It takes awhile for the silly lobby system to work - once its found a server, disconnect or go back to the game mode screen once it starts saying its found "x/y good games" and try again and it should get you into a lower ping game :S

The lobby system is retarded tho - leave a game for whatever reason i.e. someones cheating and try to get another game and 99% of the time it puts you back in the same game :(
