Should I Get The 640MB Or 320MB 8800GTS?

I am using the dell 1920 1200 monitor so it probably would be worth getting the higher memory, but i'm not sure if it is worth all the extra money. Seeing as the card is only a GTS so maybe I wouldn't use the highest settings anyway would I really need 640MB? :confused:
 
My friend has the same question but hes using 1248x1024 resolution so the 320MB would fit him nice wouldnt it ?
 
VRAM size would affect the size of textures you'll be able to use in game. Most games now have a high setting of using around 256mb. Ultra settings would use 512mb. You can expect High settings to start using 512mb of vram over the next year, notably with Crysis and other high end games. Their medium texture settings would probably still use just 256mb of vram though.

Basically if you want the crisp textures that you see in the screenshots then you'll need the 640mb version. If you can deal with slightly less sharp textures then go for the 320.
 
Go for the 640 - the reviews I've read show that the GTS has the power to run games at high res and with decent AA, but the 320 takes an absolute hiding in frame rates when it runs low on RAM. It's not worth the risk at your resolution.
 
It was the Leadtek one I was looking at for £225.00. Which is about £50 more than the lowest 320mb card. So I suppose I could afford the extra £50 if it will allow me to play using higher textures. :D
 
I've been waiting for the leadteks to come back into stock for almost a week now and to be honest i'm giving up on waiting and going for a 320mb version as i game at 1680x1050 and all the reviews say it's fine for that res. It also only as to last me till christmas when i do my next big upgrade :)
