I would probably wait until the HD6950 is released TBH. The tessellation performance of the HD6900 is supposedly much better than the HD5800 and the HD6800 series.

Well I have decided to wait until next week to see what prices the 6900`s come in at. I think i can hold out till then, if the 5870`s go out of stock everywhere or there price goes up, i might just stretch to a gtx 480 if the other half lowers her xmas list! 
Depends what price they are when theyare out and what performance it gives, tbh £250 is the max i would ever spend on a gfx card and i dont mind being a step behind tech it always gives me better options and lighter on my wallet!

LOL. You could get ur missis into games, maybe her xmas list would be better!
Even if i was Paul McKenna I could`nt convince her to play games, trust me i have tried some corkers to get her interested, like when fm 2010 came out i convinced her that she was good at tactics after she thought she had helped me win a game, she wouldnt have it when i told her she should play the game with me.............you should have seen her face.......she told me to shove the game and my rig where the sun dont shine!!
I keep on thinking of upgrading mine, but it still plays everything I own pretty flawlessly at @ 1920x1200 and it only cost £130-140 when I got it a year and a half ago. I'm going to skip this coming generation again and see whats what when the ATI 7xxx / NVIDIA 6xx are out I reckon.
Gonna hold out for a few days and see what the 6900 brings to the table, hopefully it will drive prices down!
