Should i play Fall out 3 if i found oblivion terrible?

Hey basically my problem is you see that i LOVE RPG games but oblivion is just dull. It's all copy and paste dungeons, repetitive quests and a leveling system that never posses a challenge due to it being scaled. An abomination when you consider where they were going with previous elder scrolls titles.

I downloaded 13GB of mods in the end for oblivion which made it playable and added a huge amount to it. But i still never finished it because i started playing other games instead. Then when i went back to it i updated some mod's and it all when horribly wrong and ive never been bothered in trying to fix it.

So my question is, is fall out anything like this and should i try it? ideally i really like the idea of it being on consol as i think ME was far superior on console infront of the big screen. But for fear of not being able to mod it i think im forced to get it on pc.

Cheers.

I loved Fallout 3. But I also loved Oblivion and Morrowind.

I would say if you didn't like Oblivion then it's 50/50 as to whether you will like Fallout 3, basicly because it's very much like Oblivion, but set in a post-apocolyptic future with guns, grenades, nukes and sharp pointy sticks.

And also because some of my mates who hate "morrowind type games" absolutely love Fallout 3.

Hope this helps but I doubt it :P

Try it at a mate or so first ;);).

I really disliked oblivion but loved Fo3 due to the environment, guns, mood ( music :D) and more interesting story. FO3 is the only RPG in like ten years I actually liked.

Yes mate. Give it a try, if you aren't totally sure then rent first. Only costs a couple of quid for a few days and that's enough time for you to decide whether you want to buy or not.

I've completed it on 360 twice and I'm about a quarter the way through on the PC. PC offers much better graphics and a far longer lifespan with mods and such. 360 allows you more convenience but the load times are a LOT longer on a 360 when running from the disk. So bear that in mind if you get it on console and don't intend to save it to the HDD. :)

Depends. Everything you likely hated about oblivion - lack of linearity, lots of walking around doing nothing, mobs that lvl as you do, no point in amassing money, copy and pasted dungeons is still there in fallout 3.

But it is different, combat is way cooler. I personally Loved oblivion, and hated fallout 3. Oblivion got tedious due to the reasons above, and fallout 3 just got tedious quicker.

I hated Oblivion, combat did entirely nothing for me, seeing as you couldn't not fight lots of crap, i hated it. Fallout 3 I liked though, although on the PC I wasn't a fan of using the vats system at all and early combat felt stupidly tough against certain mobs with really weak guns with no ammo. It improved very quickly though and overall its a decent game. I certainly would give it a try without worrying about it being very similar to Oblivion at all.

Ok cheers guys. I recon ill give it a go. See if i can borrow it from someone. I figure i can always mod it untill it doesn't resemble the orginal gameplay like i did with oblivion if i don't like it. The time scale does look more appealing. The combat i think was the main problem in oblivion. I really wan'ted to role play an assasin and it just wasn't possible for example, there was no reason to use a bow over magic either really as the bow was so weak.

:EDIT:

is there crafting in fall out 3?

Not true crafting, there are blueprints though for ''special'' weapons which you can build from all kinds of ''scrap'' materials.

So it's done gothic 3 style. Shame, crafting is always a big thing for me. I really like making money from it.

You get schematics then you have to get certain amount of each item (like a lunchbox for bottlecap mine amongst otheres) to create the desired item.

I didn't mind it but it's not a true crafting system I suppose where you gather resources then build a custom item.

I hated Oblivion, and whilst I didn't hate FO3, I eventaully stopped playing for similar reasons, it just took longer for me to realise due to different setting.

I loved Fallout 3 but didn't really like Oblivion so yeah, you may as well give it a go.

Oblivion for me was just a bit dull, the "story line" consisted of visiting essentially the same couple of dungeon over, and over, and over again and just normally exploring didn't really offer anything but trees, hills, more trees, the occasional useless village and more god damn trees. It was drawn out. Fallout 3 on the other hand has decent pacing if you only follow the story line, the addons are incredibly well done (Mothership Zeta is just awesome) and if you want to explore, you will actualy find interesting stuff to do, assault bandit bases or super mutant hide outs, find towns under attack and other nifty stuff.

Yeah same. I wasn't a fan of Oblivion but absolutely loved Fallout 3. The story is much more believable and I had great fun exploring the wilderness! In fact, on some days, I just wandered around finding stuff rather than progressing the game!

Superb game!

I love to explore if its worth doing. Oblivion wasn't worth doing like you said. But also you never had to buy equipment because you could always find it due to the very dumb loot tables and scaling. Bandits in glass armour?

So yeah maybe fall out will do it for me :)

My stance is pretty much what he said ^.

FO3 is an outstandingly good game.

NO! PLAY FALLOUT 1&2

They are true fallouts and much better RPG's

None of this invincible children crap if you want you can become a whore and shoot children in the face with a rocket launcher, you can.

Although be prepared for serious consequences if you chose such a path :p

Again none of this "you can't kill me I'm essential" crap more a case of ok you killed me good luck finishing that quest now ****er :p (or yeah you've got a pistol I've got a pair of miniguns, guess how this ends for you)

intresting. Im all up for older rpg's if they arnt clunky. I do love morrowind though i find sometimes its hard to get along with. Much rather it to oblivion though. It's not the graphics just the way things are structured.

Would playing fo3 ruin 1 and 2 for me?

Not really, FO3 has nothing to do with Fo1&2, all they did was buy the name and slap it on some watered down generic oblivion mod with terribly implemented gun handling.

They are isometric point and click though.

although there are mods to get them running at anything upto 1920 ress so they still look good.

FO1 has a few engine things that are annoying at times (no shove to move characters out the way)

But most where fixed in fo2.

AP ammo dmg was also broke but that has been fixed by community patches.

That sounds good, i might play fo2 and if i like it back track. Or is this a bad idea? Also i think ill pick up fo3 for the hell of it. If its nothing alike then i can't spoil fo1 and 2 by playing fo3 at the same time.

Also im tempted with baulders gate as i keep hearing people talk about it.
