Hey everyone,

I've currently got an XFX 256mb 6800GT PCI Ex in my rig. Im looking to up the graphics power and I cant decide whether to get a second matching 6800gt and make an SLI setup or change to a newer card. Eg, a 7000 or 8000 series.

Which would be the best / most cost effective option, would I see more power from two 6800gt's or a single 7000 / 8000 series card?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Regards, Mark.

an 8000 series will wallop 6800 sli w/out breaking sweat.

8800 gts can be had for a half decent price and is as future proof as it gets right now, of course will cost a lot more than another 6800 too :)

Definately upgrade to a newer single card.
Due to budget I'm waiting for nVidia to release the 8600GT (assuming they stick to the same naming system and call it that) because I can't really afford or justify an 8800.

Guessing from previous pricing of the 6600GT and 7600GT when they first came out, the 8600GT should retail between £100 and £150. The advantage of waiting for that one is that you then have a DirectX 10 card for use with Vista, if you're planning on upgrading.

I'd get rid of the 6800GT and put in a OCuk 7900GS, or a X1800XT/X1900XT, or X1950 Pro, depending on budget.

DX10 isn't out yet, and any of those will be better performance/value than 6800GT SLi.

a single 7900GT will do better than 6800s in SLI.

However, if I were in the market for a newer graphics card I'd probably get something from the x1950 series
