Should I swap in the monitor?

Most of the bits and pieces for my new build will arrive in a couple of days, but my monitor just arrived now.
It's a 24" 1920x1200 screen and I'm just wondering if I should give it a go on my current machine?
Its a Amd x2 4400 with a 8800GT 512mb card. Obviously that should be enough just to basically try the monitor out but, if I wanted to have a little play of Oblivion for example, would the 8800GT be able to handle it at 1920x1200?
Thanks

Sure, try it, why not?

You certainly won't break the monitor or GFX card trying. You may get awful FPS but at least you'll know the monitor works. And you can always set the resolution to a lower level.

Ok.. i'll give it a go when I get back.
I suppose I could try lowering the res ejr22, but one fairly basic question, as I've always used CRTs up to now, but I thought you had to keep TFTs at their native resolution, otherwise it all starts to look a bit crap?

The 8800 GT isn't a bad card - you may need to turn off some features but some stuff like AA may be a bit less noticeable at that resolution anyway.

No it won't look crap, it's gonna look weird to you anyway if your changing from a CRT to an LCD it will take a bit of getting used to.

For your desktop I'd certainly suggest using the monitor's native resolution but for gaming it's a lot less important. Do make sure you pick a resolution that matches the aspect ratio of the monitor, though, otherwise things will look stretched or squashed.
