Should I upgrade to a Q6600?

Dunno.
3+Ghz easy.
I'd be careful above 3.2GHz though.

No idea how high these overclock though! Just know the cooler is normally good for around a 50% overclock on most Intel chips!

Hmm. Thanks for your advice. :)

In that case, I will probably get a better heatsink and try to reach something like 3.4GHz, which would be good.

The only thing I'm concerned about though is how long the procssor would last if it was to be overclocked by that much. It's already three years old, I'm not sure how much longer it would last if I began to overclock it a lot. But hopefully there's nothing to be too concerned about. :)

If its cooled properly it doesn't make a single iota of difference :D

Yeah, people can take i7's up to 4.2GHz on those, think it will manage 3.6 on a E6550 :p

Indeed, you could probably get an even cheaper cooler and still do that

Great! Thanks for all of your help. :)

One more thing though, would my motherboard be able to handle such overclocking?

Perfect. My new plan: :)

Buy the heatsink I mentioned + install it.

Overclock my CPU to 3.6GHz!

Thanks everyone for all of your help and fast replies, I appreciate it. :)

One day I hope to be able to join the MM before I retire or die of old age.

68 posts in 4 years, so just under 11 years to go...

What the hell has this got to do with the thread?

Please don't spam and/or bump an old thread.

I sold my Q6600 im September, i was going to use it for an mITX build but didn't have the money for it.

Blinding chip when i had it, it replaced my E6300 and WOOSH it flew compared to a core 2 duo, had it sitting at 3.2ghz with an arctic freezer pro 7 (mine cost me 28 quid at the time).

i moved to an i7 920, to be honest the performance leap wasn't that great.

Grab yourself a Q6600 and an AFP7, whack it up to 3.2 and enjoy!

My Hero:rolleyes:

I suspect Keybaud was just getting into the spirit of things and as somebody pointed out earlier in the thread, getting his posts up so he can use the MM.

I think you were a little harsh to be honest:)

As it happened, somebody responded to the bumped thread with something that may or may not have been of relevance to you.

Don't forget that all members of this forum have equal status and we're all ultimately victims of OCUK's grand master plan:D

Damn, I read a thread that was only started a few days ago and made a comment based on recommendations about accessing the MM within the thread. Don't see how that is spam or bumping, but your more than welcome to send me a PM explaining how.

Like i said in your other thread, if your ram is only DDR2 667 it is'nt going to happen unless that board has some magical dividers.
