Should my Mondeo have an alarm?

It's an R Reg (98) 2.0LX

I've just got the one key which seems to activate a flashing LED next to the clock but does that mean that it's got an alarm? Am I supposed to have a remote central locking beeper thingy as well?

Press it 8 times. That should make the car beep.

If it does then I am 99% sure you have an alarm.

Done that, the horn makes a few beeps so I guess I have an alarm. Should I have a remote keyfob then?
